More About the Author

Valorie Burton is a bestselling author and speaker who helps people get unstuck and be unstoppable in every area of their lives. As a Certified Personal and Executive Coach, Valorie has served hundreds of clients in over 40 states and ten countries, and is the founder of The Coaching and Positive Psychology (CAPP) Institute. For more than a decade, her books, speaking engagements and media appearances, have inspired and equipped readers and audiences to:

* Make major life changes that are exciting and scary at the same time.
* Be happier and have more fun, even when life seems routine.
* Navigate setbacks and disappointments in a way that makes life better, not bitter.
* Go from a scattered to focused mind to feel and be more productive.
* Speak up with confidence rather than settling for less.
* Go to sleep at night feeling peace about decisions.
* Conquer emotions that cause procrastination, emotional spending, and the sabotage of success.

In the summer of 1999, Valorie had an epiphany that confirmed her life purpose to inspire women to live more fulfilling lives. She was on a career path that looked successful but was unfulfilling, and despite her fears, Valorie took a leap of faith to pursue her dreams. The transformation has led her to write eight books, including Successful Women Think Differently, What's Really Holding You Back?, and Your 5-Minute Personal Coach.

Valorie helps readers and leaders discover their purpose and create a vision that's true to who they are. She helps people persevere until they reach their goals, even in the face of challenges, fears, and doubts. Her expertise shows how to coach yourself by saying "yes" to what matters and "no" more often. The result? People find the freedom to live the life they previously only imagined.

Valorie's transparency and blend of personal stories, faith, and psychological research is engaging and practical. She is a columnist for Ebony Magazine and a frequent media contributor who has appeared in and on CNN, HLN, Dr. Oz, Oprah Magazine, Oprah Radio, The 700 Club, Essence, The Los Angeles Times, and many more. She has co-hosted two national television programs - The Potter's Touch with T.D. Jakes and Aspiring Women, winning two regional Emmy nominations. She has a master's degree in applied positive psychology from the University of Pennsylvania, a master's degree in journalism from Florida A&M University and a BA from Florida State University.

Valorie Burton has been my go-to guru for personal growth for years. I'm so excited to be putting her 9 habits into practice as I take my career in a new direction and make the time to create and nurture those relationships that energize my life. Recently I sailed through a week jammed with challenges and commitments by harnessing the "power of the pen" as discussed in her final chapter. Every goal I'd set down on paper manifested beautifully--and people from whom I'd faced resistance in the past actually became my greatest allies in getting things done! I'm a better parent, partner and professional when I "Think Differently." Tonight I'll use Valorie's "three blessings" technique to get a better night's sleep. If you're looking for a tool to help erase the blockages and allow your inner brilliance to break through, this book is the one.

As a certified personal and executive coach, Valorie Burton actually works herself out of her job. You see, her most meaningful goal is to teach her clients to coach themselves. I've not ever utilized a personal coach, so I found Valorie's book, Successful Women Think Differently, a dynamic tool to help yourself help yourself through God's power.

The questions Valorie proposes make you dig deep into yourself to really find out who you are and what makes you tick. It's not a haphazard trip, but a methodical journey in changing the way you think so you can succeed in whatever area you need help. Valorie uses typical, personal accounts of real people and how they accomplished this task. They help to convey her message succinctly. "Be transformed by the renewing of your mind."

Valorie encompasses seven key decisions:

Believe You Can Do It-How do you explain your successes and failures?
Get off the Hedonic Treadmill-We are poor predictors of our own happiness
Stop Trying to Fix Your Weaknesses-Start building on what's right
Build Your Muscle of Self-Control-Talent isn't enough
Cultivate Positive Emotion-Saving your relationships and transforming your life
Be Prepare for Battle-Expect obstacles and have a proven plan to overcome
Don't Be a "Maximizer"-Overabundance can rob your satisfaction; make you ineffective
Don't Go It Alone-Cultivate authentic connections/relationships
Write It Down-The power of the pen reveals your inner reasoning

Within each chapter are various decisions outlined, key lessons that are explained in that specific chapter, `what every woman should know' section, a personal coaching toolkit, and a `think differently' section.

Valorie Burton has always provided spot-on guidance in her personal development books, but her latest book hits the nail on the head and sends it straight through the wall! Although "Successful Women Think Differently" is titled for women, her "Seven Key Decisions" truly apply to anyone who wants to be successful, or to be one who has "harmony of purpose, resilience and joy," as defined by Valorie (truly, who wouldn't want that?). This book was written to help women who know there is MORE possible for them, based on their own "goals that are authentic to their deepest needs and desires...", not someone else's definition of success. Buy this book today and see how Valorie can through facts, vignettes, case studies and experience as a much-sought after international coach challenge your current mindsets and norms. Her book will lovingly help you develop the 9 habits that will make you happier, healthier and more resilient than you ever thought you could be, one step at a time!

I am an advocate for great books by great authors, especially when the information encourages, enhances and empowers us as women. I downloaded Valorie Burton's book (Successful Women Think Differently) on my Galaxy Tab's Kindle app recently while traveling and I couldn't stop reading it on the plane and in between flights at the airport. The principles and questions for self-evaluation included challenge the reader to become better, brighter and more brilliant in every sphere of influence and relationship. Valorie effectively takes us on a journey toward self-discovery and recovery of the original dreams and plans that God placed within us to accomplish for a purpose greater than ourselves. This book is a life manual with specific strategies that, when implemented, cause us not just to think differently, but to act differently as we adopt and adapt to behavioral patterns of success and significance.Successful Women Think Differently: 9 Habits to Make You Happier, Healthier, and More Resilient
