I've thoroughly enjoyed this series and this 3rd book is no exception.

** Warning: Spoilers in my review.

Georgina Kincaid is having a heck of a Christmas so far. As she's continuing to work hard at her relationship with Seth, a relationship that everyone thinks is a hopeless case, she finds out that she's to be a mentor to a brand new succubus who is terrible at her job. Not only that but the imp who had bought her soul is the one who has to oversee her mentoring of the new succubus and he definately seems to be out to make sure she fails in her role although she does not know why.

A posse of angels sets up camp in her apartment with a mysterious agenda, she has a lot of hot succubus scenes and finds that it is getting harder and harder to deny the desires between her and Seth. More trouble is on the horizon as our heroine discovers that something or someone is draining her energy. She has strange fascinating and realistic dreams then wakes up with all her energy gone, meaning she has to 'feed' more often. This situation causes her to seek out help and she is directed towards a man name Dante who isn't really helpful in doing anything more then to confuse her further.

You see glimpses of her past and it just makes Georgina even more of a real person. You find yourself feeling sorrow and empathy for her in her remebrances of the past, her mistakes that she's made and the guilt that she carries around. Some of the characters reference that she's the 'succubus with a heart' and that may be simplistic but it's true. Her actions don't seem evil but merely those of any normal human being with emotions. She still finds joy in life even in her situation. She's still a romantic, she's pragmatic but optimistic and she has a great cast of friends.

I loved all three of these books but I have to say this one was truly heartbreaking to read. SPOILERS: I was crushed to see that Seth left Georgina. I thought for sure that they would find a way to be together. I mean I can't really blame him but to let it go on that long and let her believe that he would be different - that he would stay no matter what. Wow - I really was shocked and saddened. I can't wait for Succubus Heat to come out. I hope that Georgina can find true happiness - sometimes I think that Carter will play a big role in that somehow. I guess only time will tell. I definitely recommend this series! Fantastic! Richelle Mead is a wonderful author - I would also recommend the Vampire Academy series.

The storyline picks up with a brilliant one line opening placing us right back with Georgina, our favourite succubi, and her line of... work? Along with the usual crowd of demonic friends, we have the introduction of angelic beings surrounding the town, along with nightmares of the past and in her dreams. Dreams which suck out her very life energy.

Although we know Georgina's life is not an easy one, this book comes with heavy burdens, a theme that suits the characters and brings depth and background to her previous existence, as well as expanding character detail of those we already know. The main storyline is based on why her life energy is being taken, but I think the deeper character insights make this book. However, you should be warned, it ends in a much troublesome way. You'll be reaching for book four so have it handy!

Anyone who has never read the series could pick this book up and start reading. For us fans, it is a more in depth look at how the demons, angels, and even Georgina herself, look at the world and especially themselves. As for the love affair... I'm not giving anything away!

Once more I was hooked within the first few minutes and couldn't put the book down. I cannot rate this series high enough.

"The love in his eyes was so powerful, I needed to look away. Seth had an amazing grasp of the English language, but there were days when that skill was nothing compared to what he told me in his looks."

This book put me through an emotional ringer. RM definitely pushed the emotional envelope with her characters in this installment and my heart did flip flops more than once. Georgina and Seth are desperately trying to figure out their relationship but it just seems they can't catch a break. All of Georgina's friends seem to be against her relationship, well except Carter, and she is starting to worry about Seth's mortality plus not being able to have sex with the one person you desperately love seems to be adding to the dysfunction in their relationship.

But Georgina doesn't have a ton of time to deal with that because something is zapping all her power out while she is sleeping. She is also having vivid dreams of herself and a little girl that consume her waking thoughts. Erik isn't able to help but leads her to Dante a dream expert. There is also a group of Angels about in the city looking into something and using Georgina's apartment as a type of headquarters. Also, the imp that brokered Georgina's deal is in town and is trying to cause problems too along with Tawny the new succubus on the block. When it rains it pours.

Some of the plot devices in this were predictable, that said I didn't care. I saw the ending coming and still it unraveled in a way that kept me completely engaged and emotionally on edge with a few surprises twisted in. The subplot for the entire series is still building and I have a lot of theories but none of them have been proven or dismissed yet.
