5.0 out of 5 stars You need this record
Forget everything you know or don't know about so-called "emo" bands, this album is absolutely incredible, regardless of any label applied to it. I borrowed this CD from a friend, listened to the first song, then went online and bought everything by this band. That's the only time I've ever done something like that. They are amazing. It's so raw, so...

3.0 out of 5 stars High highs with low lows
The jolted introduction into Cursive's abrasive romanticism could only be an acquired taste, with Kasher's organs-on-sleeve scream/sing doing nothing to embrace less adventurous listeners. The first few songs are deceptively good and make much of the following all the more obviously strained or forgettable.

Forget everything you know or don't know about so-called "emo" bands, this album is absolutely incredible, regardless of any label applied to it. I borrowed this CD from a friend, listened to the first song, then went online and bought everything by this band. That's the only time I've ever done something like that. They are amazing. It's so raw, so genuine. Everything Tim Kasher says, sings, or screams comes off sounding so brutally honest that you can't listen to the whole thing the first time through. It gives you the most beautiful hurting you can ever experience from music. I don't know how many times I've listened to it, and it is still in heavy rotation in my car and at home. I've lost my voice several times in the car, driving on the freeway and screaming, getting so lost in the intensity. This is an album that is so good from beginning to end, that you discover it in stages. You listen to the first few songs over and over because they are so good, and eventually you start getting all the way through it, and you discover that the songs in the middle and at the end are just as good, if not better than the first few.

every single one of cursives albums is absolutely amazing...but this one i must say tops them all. tim kashers unrefined emotion has never been captured so well as on this album, nor has any other album that i have heard by anyone come close to this level of perfection.

Simply gutwrencing. Every word heartfelt. the lyrics are fantastic, painfully let out. The music is beautiful and intense. The definition of "emo".

5.0 out of 5 stars This album could change your life., April 17, 2004

This is my favorite emo record, for that matter my favorite record of all time. It's full to burst with Tim Kasher's unbridled emotion and musical genius. I can't say enough about how great this album is. Part of me wants me to keep this masterpiece all to myself, but the truth is that you owe it to yourself to buy this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Might Be Too Old To Love This Album..., January 26, 2012
...but I don't care. This album is classic. Some might call it "emo." I call it "rock." Every song on this album is great. Way better than Cursive's new stuff.

Not my favorite by them, but crap, its still great. I agree with one of the reveiwers on here. After one listen to, Domestica, I immediately went out and bought all of their albums. They are one of the best unknown bands I have ever listened to.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Beginnings, May 16, 2005
This review is from: Such Blinding Stars for Starving Eyes (Audio CD)
Not only is this album an amazing beginning for the incredible band known as cursive, but it is also an amazing followup to what emo is all about. Think about 1996 when this album came out. The only other emo bands were sunny day real estate, texas is the reason, and mineral(personally i dont count weezer). This band brought alot to the table and continue to make beautiful music to my ears.
