Book Description

Meet Brandy Alexander, a young woman from South Philadelphia with a big mouth, an even bigger heart and a little problem with impulse control. It’s not her fault trouble seems to follow her around. Okay, it is her fault, but why quibble over details?

When Brandy (a puff piece reporter for a local Los Angeles TV news station) returns to her hometown after a four year absence, she is thrilled to be reunited with friends and family. But her joy is short-lived when her best friend, John, becomes the victim of a tragic accident. Brandy is alone in thinking that the death is “no accident” and as she sets out to prove her theory, she stumbles upon a political scandal of major proportions. Things begin to heat up, when it appears that her former boyfriend, police Detective Robert Anthony DiCarlo, is involved in sabotaging the investigation. The one thing Brandy knows for sure is that people keep turning up dead and if she doesn’t get some answers fast, she could end up on the short list.

As Brandy searches out the truth, she gains some unexpected allies including sexy, dangerous, street-savvy Nicholas Santiago and the now-married Bobby, who still holds a torch for his former girlfriend.

With humor, guts and determination, Brandy tackles each challenge – be it dodging a bullet or resisting that box of Tastykakes in the cupboard. Murder, mayhem and romance abound in Shelly Fredman’s novel, proving there really is No Such Thing as a Secret.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brandy is a hoot!!! October 23, 2011

Format:Kindle Edition
I absolutely LOVE this series!!! Brandy left Philly four years earlier to get away from a broken relationship with cop boyfriend, Bobby DiCarlo. She landed a job in LA as a puff piece reporter, and things are going along fine until her best friend calls her home to be her maid of honor in her wedding. Of course, Brandy can't say no, but dreads going back and facing the memories. Within days of coming home, Brandy's singing at her brother's club with her old group and looks up into the eyes of her ex-boyfriend. Trying to play it cool, she steps forward to say hello and falls off the stage and knocks herself out. Thus begin the adventures of Brandy......

All of these books have an intriguing mystery, terrific friendships, laugh-out-loud humor and HOT, HOT guys!!! Give it a try. You won't be sorry. ;0

5.0 out of 5 stars I Want More!! February 26, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
What is a woman who is half Jewish, half Catholic, named after an alcoholic beverage and a porn star like? She is Brandy Alexander, a wannabe investigative journalist, a little quirky, a lot of fun, hilarious and absolutely loveable.

Brandy has been in Los Angeles for the past four years covering fluff assignments that pay the bills, but don't really satisfy her longing for harder edged investigative reporting. She comes home to Philly to be in a friend's wedding and soon finds herself trying to solve a murder.

Coming back to Philly brings Brandy face to face with the ex that forced her to leave her home town in the first place. Bobby is a sexy cop who just happens to be married with child now. Helping Brandy with her amateur investigating is a mysterious man of many talents, Nick Santiago.

Throughout the book the sexual chemistry is bubbling. Bobby and Brandy have a lot of unresolved issues and leftover feelings. Nick and Brandy have instant heat and a whole lot of new territory to cover.

This was a brilliant introduction to what I hope will be a long running and thoroughly entertaining series. I found the characters to be refreshing and completely genuine. These were all people you'd expect to meet or already know in your own town, people you'd love to hang out with on a Friday night. In between all the laughs and chemistry was an intriguing mystery that kept me turning the pages long after my body wanted to sleep. I started this book last night and finished it this morning; I didn't want to put it down and did only when absolutely necessary.

No Such Thing As A Secret was laugh out loud funny and a completely engaging read. All I can say is thankfully I have book two, No Such Thing As A Good Blind Date: A Brandy Alexander Mystery, already on my book shelves, because I can hardly wait to tear into it. I was in a book slump... and this book rescued me; Shelly Fredman has a brand new fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars I am so thrilled with these book series!!! March 18, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I went to Amazon on purpose to write this review, that's how much I loved Shelly Fredman's books. Read them in order, It follows a pattern and I was sad that the last book was the last book. I laughed out loud with every book, and esp the last book. Shelly tells you a great story about Brandy, her friends, family, adventures and loves and wraps it up nicely in the last book. These books are rereads. By that I mean I would read the again and again and that is my highest compliment to any book. Why this wasn't made a mini series on TV I don't know. I wonder at the PA of some of these publishing companies. The price is great on Amazon but for these books I would have paid full price. There is not much that makes me laugh out loud repeatedly and for that reason only, I would read the books again and again. Shelly, after you have rested from all of Brandy's adventures, I know you can take her further. Thanks for writing these books. Love your sense of adventure and sense of humor! Sydna Little
