Well played nu-sounding metal with guitar solos.,

This review is from: Sucker Punch (Audio CD)
OK, folks I've had a couple of listens to this album and I think it sounds pretty nasty as an initial impression.I thought their first album was good and showed a promising style, although not many of the songs really grabbed my attention. Unsurprisingly this album sounds a little more 'nu-metal' than the previous offering which had a slight industrial / grunge edge to it. Although, don't worry folks there's no rapping / keyboards / DJ's featuring here!!! I'm not quite sure who to compare this band, but its cool to hear some guitar solos in modern sounding heavy metal (normally you have to look to the progressive genre to hear solos!!). Anyway, all of the songs sound distinct from each other, although the seem to have a similar tempo and consistent level of heaviness - which in my book is no bad thing. The level of musicianship is very high, and as the band is not well known they consequently don't have the kiddie fan base yet (!), so get to them before you friends do and have they joy of being the first on the block to be a fan. A worthy purchase.

No Sophomore Slump Here!!,

Haji's Kitchen delivers a strong second outing with Sucker Punch. Although this album loses the shred aspect from the first album (which if you haven't heard you need to!!!) the album still has plenty of bite too it. This album proves that heavy metal still exists without the annoying rap metal stigma of crap bands like limp bizkit and korn. The musical talent is excellent. The guitar riffs and stunning percussion keep the listener fully enthralled in this tour de force. Don't hesitate. Just Buy!!!

Almost Too Much Rock for One Band,
By Mike "Mike" (Dallas, Texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sucker Punch (Audio CD)
This album is the second from Haji's Kitchen. Quite simply, it rocks. It rips into the listener with powerful hooks and driving percussion. The musical technique is inventive and awesome. Head-to-head these guys shred all but the best of their competition. With so much talent on display, it is almost too much rock for one band. If you like Tool, The Toadies, Alice in Chains, Pantera, then this album should fit comfortably into your collection. The band is native to Dallas, Texas, and puts on an excellent live show packed with energy (recent venues include the Curtain Club, Galaxy Club, and Trees). No quarter is given; nothing is held in reserve. Buy the album and enjoy, and if you're ever in town try to check them out in person.

Excellent guitar, bass, vocal and drum work.technical heavy metal.Do not hesitate buying this album,i know you'll be looking for their first{the better of the two in my opinion)after hearing this one!I searched very hard for this album after hearing the band CRIMENY then went on a search for anything any of these musicians had released(thats how good they all are)Derek Taylor,Scott Stine,Rob Stankiewicz.Look for Derek's(dystrophy) and Scott's(broke)(excellent guitar player as well as bass!!) solo albums on Shrapnel records, also Crimeny,Double-ought spool,Eniac requiem,Stara zagora
