Let's do away with humane notions and sell some cars,
By Ken Jensen "Author of It Takes Guts To Be Me:... (Kingston, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Suckers (DVD)
This movie is merciless. It takes all the things we hate about used car salesmen and exponentially elevates it to epic proportions. 100% cold hearted sales goals being met no matter what the cost. I soaked myself in the vicious comedy like a warm bath after a hard day. One of my all time favorite comedies due to theme.

A Low Rent "Glengarry Glen Ross" Devolves Into Standard Action Picture,
By K. Harris "Film aficionado" (Albuquerque, NM) - See all my reviews (TOP 10 REVIEWER) (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Suckers (DVD)
"Suckers" is an interesting, if not very accomplished, picture about the business of selling cars. Loaded with testosterone, this movie starts out as a low rent version of "Glengarry Glen Ross" (minus the great dialogue). We see the ruthlessness and the sleaze of one particular dealership as our cutthroat salesman will do anything to close a deal for maximum profit. Much of the movie is focused on Daniel Benzali as the man in charge. He gives frequent "pep" talks and motivates his staff to be heartless, cunning, and manipulative to outwit prospective buyers. These portions of the film are definitely the most interesting, and Benzali is a forceful--if not particularly likable--presence. Her performs the same function (in much the same way) that the Alec Baldwin character did in the movie version of "Glengarry" by setting up a competitive sales competition.
Based on the dealership aspect alone, this would have been a pretty intriguing film. But "Suckers" also throws in a few more standard B-movie conventions. We've got one salesman being threatened by loansharks, another involved in the drug trade, and a couple of superfluous sex scenes for the sake of nudity. By the time we near the end, the film has lost all interest in the dealership to go out with a big confrontational shoot-out. Very standard, and not very believable. "Suckers" is harmless enough. Probably geared more for a male audience, I can imagine some people enjoying this picture--although, for me, it's appeal was somewhat limited. KGHarris, 11/06.

Reservoir Dogs Selling Cars,
By A Customer
This review is from: Suckers (DVD)
The mysteries of used car salesmen and what their lives are really like are revealed in this black comedy. A racist car salesman inspires his multi-cultural staff on the tricks-of-the-trade when selling cars. We are exposed to the dark side of these sleazy salesman in this movie which has an incredible ending. A must see and a future cult classic!

New Car Dealer,

This film would have been better if they had stuck to the topic of everyday happenings at a dealership. The stupid inner drama of murder, drugs and gangsters would be better in a Soprano episode. But if you can watch the first 45 minutes and forget the rest, some of the characters especially the sales manager will offer the viewer a funny look what a bad dealer is. Thank goodness this is not the case of today's dealers.

Laugh or be Horrified,
By A Customer
This review is from: Suckers (DVD)
If you are or have been in the car business this movie will make you laugh and motivate you - everyone else that is not in the above 2 catagories will be horrified and never ever want to set foot on a car lot again much less purchase from a car dealer. This movie depicts the way the car business used to be - ( I know I was in the car business for 10 years) The car business has been totally transformed in the last 20 years - this move is fantastic and it is hard to belive that this was a low budget film because it is 100% quality...

Good writing, pacing, and direction. Suckers made me laugh out loud several times, and was a good movie on its own merit until the direction takes a left turn into Quentin Tarrantinoville. The movie would have been a lot better had they stuck to the salesman theme.

"The horror of reality.",

Forget "Used Cars" & "Cadillac Man". "Suckers" is why I left the buisness. The first time I saw this film I sat with mouth gaping. Every line spoken by Daniel Benzali I had heard over and over again, in every sales meeting, on every car lot I had worked. This movie is 100% real, with the exception of the drug dealing foul ups. That of couse would never happen. Car salesmen are not that sloppy.

Sorry guys I cant give it 5 stars because only a hand full of movies (ie:The Godfather,Deer hunter) get that rating with that said I give this flick 4 stars for anyone in the business, It will make you laugh your butt off. I myself have been in the car business for over 20+ years and have seen all these characters in real life including myself as the sales manager (OH NO!!)I play this movie at our sales meeting from time to time to lighten up the day. It is the most dark side of the business, I'd like to think we dont pull this stuff on a daily basis but it does happen like it or not. I have to say I cant reccomend this movie to anyone outside the SALES business it most likely wouldnt be so funny if you cant relate. The end of the movie was a little out of wack but if you didnt have some way of ending it I guess it could go on forever. allthough I have seen some parts of the ending in the business no deaths that I recall......at least not from shooting.

Too much cussing, but very accurate portrayal of car dealers,

I have been a car salesman at a One-Price dealer for 11 years, and this DVD is very funny. The accuracy is pretty spot on for big cities in the old days of car selling. We all got a big kick out of some of the ridiculous stuff on here, as most of it is over the top, but some is very true.
There is an overuse of the F word, and a ridiculous ending, but overall a fun film for car guys. Some of the events are things that I have actually seen before except maybe being left out in the street with no pants after a test drive and subsequent sexual interlude with a beautiful woman...I wish...

I too am in Atlanta and have been in the car business for the last 7 years. Damn I love this movie.....!!! When I first saw it I thought I had gone back to work..!!!! Unfortunately it is true...and all the things that happened in the movie are true to form for the business. I wish I could say it wasn't but it is. I think by looking at this I also see how the outside world looks at us.....and i truly feel by watching this that we bring it on ourselves...!!! Happy watching.....
