5.0 out of 5 stars unbelievably good!, November 28, 2003
By
Fernando de O. Leobons (Rio de Janeiro, RJ Brazil) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sudaka (Audio CD)
Most musicians - particularly percussionists - who steep themselves into a traditional style or form, tend to be uncomfortable with musical "fusions" of any sort which utilize traditional music and drumming with more modern and comtemporary musical idioms. Probably because most such attempts have not been exactly fortunate. Well, this is a wonderful exception! Musotto is a musician with intimate knowledge of two of the richest afro-brazilian musical traditions: the sacred ritual drumming of candomble and the berimbau of capoeira. With a solid understanding and technical command of both, he blends this music with african pigmy chants, drum-n-bass, arab music, bahian carnival songs, street-vendor chants, brazilian film soundtracks, electronic beats and patterns plus a considerable array of percussion instruments. He then proceeds to plug-in all of this stuff and blends it at the same time with fire and good taste. And hey....it swings! This cd certainly provides a blueprint for the new, good, provocative and intelligent music of the new millenia.

I am a electronic music fan . I practice capoeira here in Dusselford, Germany .This Cd is an inspiration for all my capoeira-clubber friends. It seems that this masterpiece was done for us .We can't stop listen to this CD .This is the best CD I ever had , and it works in clubs also !!
Why is not a smash hit ?
I Don't know . Maybe because we are so stupid listen to a lot of bad music the whole year . My mother bought this CD in New York , and since then this is a hit , at least in my life . This is the music of the film of life .

Musotto's work represents a mark in the evolution of contemporary music. This argentinian-brazilian,called by many brazilian musicians "the master of berimbao", has combined in this CD the expressive south american soul (indians, street sounds, sampled voice's brazilian calssic films) with a remarkable bit that makes you feel really alive.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pleasant new Brazilian electronica, October 21, 2003
This review is from: Sudaka (Audio CD)
Modern electronic remix tracks, with samples drawn from ethomusical percussion albums, the afro-samba band Ile Aiye, old "cinema novo" art films, and from field recordings made in towns inside Brazil's Mato Grosso and in rural Argentina. The mixing and production concepts seem somewhat unidimensional, but it's still very nice, and the choices of source material are pretty creative... There's a Sergio Ricardo credited on one track, presumably the old 1960s bossa nova pioneer; yet another reason to check this disc out.

I COULDN'T BELIEVE WHEN I LISTEN TO THIS ALBUM BY THE FIRST TIME .
THIS IS A MASTERPIECE THAT MAKES YOU BELIEVE THAT OUR FUTURE CAN BE OK , IF WE RESPECT THE PAST AND BELIEVE IN THE FUTURE OF TECHNOLOGY . BUY THIS ALBUM AND BE HAPPY .

5.0 out of 5 stars A great buy, August 4, 2004
This review is from: Sudaka (Audio CD)
I bought this album at a modern dance/capoeira show i saw downtown. I picked it becuase one of the songs is titled "Ginga," and that was primarily what sparked my interest, since i practice capoeira. BUt i didn't think it would become one of my fave CDs! I play it when i'm relaxing, when i practice, or when i just need a pick-me-up and while all teh songs are good, my absolute favorites are "Caminho" and "Raio." Great for fans of electronic music, or for those who just want to try something new. TRY IT!
