Product Description

A Sudden Outbreak of Magic stars Kelley and Jeroan Strickland, twin teenagers whose family just moved to Dubuque, Iowa. One cold morning in November, Kelley gets "infected" by magic after reading aloud from a small leatherbound book she finds.

She also blows up the family home in the process.

Soon Kelley and Jeroan must face a power-hungry, centuries-old Sorcerer who wants to rid the world of what he calls "renegade" magic-users. Only Kelley's new way of using magic will save their new city and their magically infected friends... though she may lose her brother in the process.

A Sudden Outbreak of Magic is a novel about ancient power, growing up, and finding your place within those two very different realms, from the author of In Maps & Legends, The All Nations Team, and The Wannoshay Cycle.

This review is from: A Sudden Outbreak of Magic (Contagious Magic) (Kindle Edition)
Probably most accurately described as Young Adult fiction. Jasper has excellent writing ability, improving over time. Good story, though why good guy merely wanted to talk to the bad guy each time completely baffled me. Motivation? Purpose? Teen characters very well done.

Book had distracting errors, especially pronouns. Needed a good editor.

Overall, good enough to want to read the next one.

More About the Author

I'm a fiction writer interested in a wide range of genres and styles. The more I read and write, the more I realize I have to learn, and that's the fun of this gig.

I've published seven novels, a story collection, and six dozen short stories, along with a digital comic with artist Niki Smith, and two how-to books about how to create digital comics and ebooks. And I'm always working on one or two new books, stories, or comics. I'm afraid I can't stop.

In the past I've tried bartending, teaching junior high, painting houses, being a secret shopper, working construction, and many more jobs; I prefer fiction writing. For my day job, I work as a technical writer. I live with my family in North Carolina, and my website is michaeljasper.net.
