5.0 out of 5 stars One of Canada's finest right here, March 10, 2005
This review is from: Sudden Stop (Audio CD)
Colin James has released no less than eight superb albums north of the 49th Parallel (a few of them have found their way to US release)...THIS is the one that got me hooked. If you just let it play from start to finish, it's a solid effort all the way...Colin is revered and respected in the Great White North and is a worthy successor to Stevie Ray Vaughan. Great rock and pop sensibility, full to overflowing. He clearly LOVES what he does and you will too. From the scratchy 30s sounding intro (Stones in My Passway) to Just Came Back all the way to the title track at the end, Colin does fine work with help from folks like Bonnie Raitt...the slow jams like Crazy Over You and the absolutely great single If You Lean on Me, not a bad note to be found anywhere here. He's done many albums since, and has explored the swing thing (two albums with The Little Big Band, some help there from Roomful of Blues) and done a more acoustic release called National Steel...it's all good, and this is a great place to get acquainted with the man and his music. Canada must be proud...the States could stand to hear more of him. To quote Aerosmith..."Just push Play"...sit back, and ENJOY!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Easily one of my top five favorite cd's, August 13, 2000

My favorite time to pop this cd in is on long highway trips. I have nothing else in my collection that pumps me up like "I just came back" or "Show me". The whole cd is a sing-along sensation! If you like good music period....you'll like this cd.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great album from a phenomenal musician, July 10, 2000

This review is from: Sudden Stop (Audio CD)
First of all Colin James is the best blues guitarist that nobody has ever heard of. Since this album was released I have bought 4 separate copies (they keep getting "borrowed") and have never regreted a single one. James lets you know where he's coming from by opening with a quick steel guitar cover of "Stones in my Pathway" by Robert Johnson that sounds like it could be from a 30's Mississippi bluesman before unleashing some fiery blues and rock originals. He ends in a heartfelt cover of "Sudden Stop" by Percy Sledge with one of the most emotive guitar solos ever. Awesome. Oh yeah, the boy can sing, too. Worth a pickup for blues/rock fans looking for new(old) talent.

4.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely a great one!, September 10, 1998

Colin James combines searing guitar, pounding rythms, and awesome horns into a truly great recording. I also have another CD not listed here in which Colin gets into some rythm and bluesy stuff, a five star recording but darn if I can remember the name of it!!!!!! More later if I find it! If you know what it is tell me!

Fell in love with BAD HABITS and had to order this. Almost as good. Not quite as mature as HABITS but a very good CD as well.
It is a little more ROCK and a bit less BLUES but has the same COLIN JAMES touch that lifts even average tracks above the norm.
You can hear his origins and measure his progress when compared to HABITS. A brilliant CD for cruising on a sunny day with your feet tapping out the beat.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well Worth A listen, August 23, 1998

This review is from: Sudden Stop (Audio CD)
Colin James is undoubtly The best blues/rock guitarist Canada has ever produced. It surprises me that he is not a lot more popular in the USA. To describe his style you really have to compare him to players like SRV, and Kenny Wayne Shepard. In my opinion he is a more talented player than Shepard. This album contains some very good examples of his ability; however to get a true picture you really have to listen to a number of his albums. National Steel and Little Big Band are excellent albums as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME, July 29, 2001

My truck got broken into and I lost several hundred cd's. I honestly miss Sudden Stop the most.Colin James is a natural and you can tell it from the first to last note in almost every thing he plays. He gets minimal air time in the states, but if you look at some of the pros who wait in line to work with him, you'll see what we mean! I can't say enough about his talent. Please check him out. 5.0 out of 5 stars Great kick back style, keeps your head rocking to the end!, June 3, 1999
This review is from: Sudden Stop (Audio CD)
I have listened to Sudden Stop for over a year. I consider it to be one of my top ten picks of all time. Never could figure out why he hasn't made it to the big times and toured the states. He has a style that most southern rockers look for. Reminds me of a take-off from Lynard Skynard. He incorparates the right amount of his own talent to make this CD, OUTSTANDING. I would reccomend it highly, if you like to stomp your foot and hear some great recordings!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Cadillac Baby, October 1, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Sudden Stop (Audio CD)
Someone wanted to know what the album was that had Cadillac Baby on it. It's Colin James and the Little Big Band.

I haven't actually heard this CD but I have 4 other CD's by this man and they are all awesome. Each record he does has a different sound/feel and it blows me away how he can produce top notch stuff in every style he tries. What a talent. I am now going to order this CD as well:-)
