5.0 out of 5 stars Don't miss this fabulous new book!
If you like your summer reading to be full of unforgettable characters and lots of great emotion you should definitely get hold of SUDDENLY ONE SUMMER, Barbara Freethy's latest book. 2.0 out of 5 stars Hated the end of the book...
The writer built up the story so well but as the end approached it seems as if she had just 2 chapters to solve everything and end the book!!! So, everything disentangled at the blink of an eye... Ridiculous!! Very sorry for the end of it.

I had never read this author before and now I am trying to find every book I can by her. It is a refreshing change from what I normally read (best-selling murder mysteries).

4.0 out of 5 stars warm lighthearted romp, July 2, 2009
This review is from: Suddenly One Summer (Angel's Bay) (Mass Market Paperback)
What makes Angel's Bay different than the rest of California is a belief that angels exist. There is proof as a video of sightings has gotten around, but reporter Reid Tanner assumes a clever fraud by the townsfolk. He plans to prove the whole thing is a fake.

Tanner meets another newcomer Jenna Davies who saved a pregnant girl from suicide. He is attracted to her because she avoids the publicity her rescue warrants. Meanwhile, enigmatic etchings appear on a cliff that is nearly impossible to climb let alone stop to carve symbols. Soon Tanner begins to wonder if the legends are true as someone unseen seems to help people there and glimpses of what appears to be previous lives occur. Either that or someone is pulling off quite a fraud with no obvious motive.

The premise is intriguing as the townsfolk fully believe angels reside with them leading to a fun paranormal romance between the ultimate skeptic seeking the scam and the somewhat doubting but hopeful other newcomer. They are a solid lead couple as each separately and together struggle to navigate the nuances of Angel's Bay although the numerous appearances of the zillion townsfolk at times overwhelms their prime plot. Still this is a warm lighthearted romp that fans will enjoy and look forward to apparently future angelic sagas.

5.0 out of 5 stars It kept me reading & left me wanting more..., August 15, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I've just finished reading "Suddenly One Summer". I loved the book, the town, the characters. While Barbara Freethy built the story around the main characters, she also gave enough information about other characters to leave me wanting more, to know their story and what happens in their life. The story builds from the beginning of the book to a fast finish. I knew what was coming but not how quickly or how it would end.
Now, as I've said, I want more. It's 10:50 PM, I just finished the book. I signed back in to Amazon.com to buy the next book. I have to continue with the story. I sure hope Barbara can write as fast as I can read!

The last thing that Jenna Davis is looking for is attention, but when she sees a pregnant teenager try to kill herself by jumping off a pier, she has to help. An action which brings reporter Reid Tanner into her life. Reid can tell that Jenna is hiding something and the reporter in him wants to find out what it is. But Reid's digging can bring danger to them all. As Jenna and Reid get closer to danger, can Reid protect her?

I can't believe I missed this series when it first debuted last year. I'm loving Angel's Bay!! And Suddenly One Summer is a jam up way to start a new series! I loved Jenna and Reid and found myself absorbed with the people of Angel's Bay. Loaded with secondary characters that you are anxious to see more of in future books, Suddenly One Summer is not to be missed! I'm off to read the second book in this series, On Shadow Beach, right now!

I have stumbled upon Barbara Freethy and I love this book. I normally read Susan Wiggs, Nora Roberts, Mary Alice Monroe, Luanne Rice, Heather Graham, Fern Michaels. I will now add this author to my favorites list.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sit on your porch and enjoy this one !, August 30, 2011
This review is from: Suddenly One Summer (Angel's Bay) (Mass Market Paperback)
The first in the Angel's Bay Series and a definite winner. I found this one at the local Goodwill for .99cents. I had never read anything by Freethy before and found this to be wonderful. It introduces the main character and her secrets while also introducing us to a wonderful community of ppl. living in the fishing village of Angel's Bay CA. I loved how the author was able to focus on the main character and her plight, while also bringing in other characters and their stories as well. I felt like I was right there meeting so many great people. Of course, this is the first of five books so I was thrilled that the story continued. The second book , Suddenly One Summer continues this exciting story !

I have no idea what's in this book....I'm guessing its a romance novel. It was requested as a gift for my wife. She reads romance novels. Amazon should vet their requests for people like me to "review" EVERYTHING we buy. Some stuff I buy, I have no idea if its a good buy or not...they are just gifts.
