I just wanted to say this,

the person who reveiwed this cd before me defenitley doesn't speak spanish. The song is basically saying the same thing in spanish as it does in english, in fact i like the song 100x better in spanish becuz it has more feeling, it has more passion, it means a lot more. I think Shakira should just stick to spanish, she is obviously not the same shakira as before. I won't deny it, she looks good, but, her music in english doesnt make much sense

making a song lose it's meaning,

Okay, like it was said before... it's obvious that some of you people don't speak Spanish as your native language (or even know much of it), and you're trying to translate Suerte into english... honestly doing this, can make you lose the feeling you get when you hear the song in Spanish... when you "understand" what the song means (although again is pretty much the same thing in english version only the chorus different) you hear the true meaning...I mean there's nothing wrong with understanding what a person is saying in Spanish... but if you translate every word, for sure it'll lose what kept you listening to it before you "translated" it. I'm a native speaker of Spanish and rythym and lyrics arent even half of what any kind of music means, or how it makes you feel... It's a feeling which is probably one of the hardest things to explain... like love...

obsolete item,

Only a collector should look for this item. Music lovers should purchase the 2-song "single" CD instead, with both "Suerte" and "Whenever Wherever" on it. Then you can form your own opinion of which chorus you prefer, and how closely the verses are translated!

I would just like to comment that the songs are VERY similar, besides the choruses themselves. Plus, I would reccomend anything with Shakira's name on it ;)

You Just Have To Love Shakira,
By "paradise_found" (Musicland, USA) - See all my reviews

With the catchy hook and provocative message, this song is by far the best of her new album "Laundry Service." The Spanish version "Suerte" (Which translates to "Luck") has a very different meaning than the English "Whenever, Wherever." Though both songs are sung to the same tune, it's almost funny how completely poor the Spanish translation song "Suerte" is. The chorus of "Whenever, Wherever" is: "Whenever/Wherever/we're meant to be together/I'll be there/ and you'll be near/and that's the deal my dear" where as the chorus of "Suerte" roughly trasnlates to: "With you/, my life I want to live/ the life which have left of life/ I want I to live with you." It could be a lot more fune tuned, but you get the idea. Overall, Shakira does a decent job translating. This CD also includes the upcoming single "Objection" (Tango), which is quite possibly the second best of the album. A very worthwhile song and artist.
