This review is from: Gai Suetoni Tranquilli De vita Caesarum libri III-VI: Tiberius, Caligula, Claudius, Nero with introduction and notes by Joseph B. Pike (Paperback)
This annotated edition of four books of Suetonius's De Vita Caesarum is well worth a look for any serious student of Suetonius. Though the book itself dates from far antiquity, and its scholarship may therefore be old, the notes are nevertheless replete with treatment both of historical and of grammatical and manuscript issues, which which it is difficult to find any other critical edition that treats. This being a digital reproduction of a rare original copy, the text is marked with the occasional underlines and marginal notes of the original owner, but is mostly clean and certainly is readable throughout. The greatest downside to this edition is its incompleteness: because it was published in the very early twentieth century, Suetonius's text is expurgated briefly in several places; for notes on these sections, you must turn elsewhere.
