awesome book .my family came from the same home town and my parents
told me stories of how they got thru the war.and then reading it from another persons view was simply outstanding.i want to thank Donato for putting his experiences down on paperand letting the rest of the world know what the children had to go thru. during the war.
i would recommend this book to anyone .

Since it is rare that one finds Italian thoughts written in English, I want to share with you a book I recently finished reading called, "Suffer the Children ," by Donato De Simone.
Because I was a child about the same age as De Simone during WWII, I appreciated his war observations throughout the book.
Because an article I read in the Wall Street Journal many years ago sparked my interest in the Italian people's relation to Jewish refugees in Italy during WWII, I found those portions of this book particularly interesting.
Because of having a grandmother from the Abruzzi area, I found the location of the plot very interesting.
Because years ago I enjoyed reading a book about an English soldier making his way back to England from an Italian Prison camp with the help of Italians along the way, I also enjoyed reading the experiences the people of this village encountered while helping all soldiers passing through.
In other words, anyone with an interest in the history and culture of Italy will find something of interest in this book, which allows you to experience Italy during WWII from the eyes and thoughts of a little boy.
