Review

What a glorious achievement to hear the voices of women across the globe convey their Divine search towards understanding. -- Sufism Journal, March 2001

About the Author

Written by various members of the Sufi Women Organization. Inspirational women from every continent discussing the journey of women from different perspectives.

The Sufi Women Organization was established in 1993 under the auspices of the International Association of Sufism. A forum for all Sufi women, it has been tremendously successful in gathering together women from diverse cultural backgrounds who share a dedication to the goals of Sufism, especially with respect to human rights. Our primary humanitarian goals include women's rights, education, and social awareness. The devotion of all who have volunteered their time, energy and expertise have led to substantial achievements:

opening lines of communications among Sufi sisters from many different schools throughout the world

bringing the influence of Sufi women into the traditional Sufi gatherings and zekr

introducing Sufism into the global community through interfaith organizations and the United Nations

working with diverse community services programs

providing classes and gatherings for Sufi women

introducing Sufi women's accomplishments in art, literature, poetry, teachings, and practices in publications distributed internationally

establishing an electronic mail news group and web site for sharing among Sufi women

creating a forum for exchanging ideas, traditions and teachings among Sufi women from different orders and culture.

5.0 out of 5 stars It is About Time!!, November 28, 2001

This review is from: Sufi Women: The Journey Towards the Beloved (Paperback)
It is about time that a women's movement show the immense contribution women have made to spirituality, and Sufism in particular. These stories of modern Sufi women are truly inspirational for the feminine in all of us. Women often feel religion is a masculine field. Yet, this book, published by the renowned Sufi Women Organization, shares the struggles and triumphs of contemporary Sufi women ... who are shining examples of the strength of women's spirituality. The only book of its kind that I have come across.

5.0 out of 5 stars Strong Sufi women, March 23, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Sufi Women: The Journey Towards the Beloved (Paperback)
This book presents personal stories of outstanding, contemporary Sufi women, describing how they came to the "straight path" of Sufism and how this path has transformed their lives. Here are some examples of strong, intelligent women, many of whom are Islamic Sufis, who challenge the image of Muslim women often presented in the media. Compelling stories.

This review is from: Sufi Women: The Journey Towards the Beloved (Paperback)
The wisdom of the heart must be aligned with the presence of the force of life. Rumi said "In between all right doings and all wrong doings there is a field. I will meet you thEre." This must be revered. Bow now your head to the east. As Ellen said in one of her funny episodes of "Ellen": I must bow toward Mecca Now". A joke, but it's true. We must bow toward the force..Good day.
