Book Description

January 28, 1998
A WOMAN AFTER SWEET REVENGE

Sugar Anne Spicer's disgraceful fall from Chicago society was as scandalous as her lust for retribution from her conniving husband. After stealing millions in a railroad scam and robbing her blind, the skunk ran off with the town floozy in tow. Even worse, folks suspected Sugar Anne's had been involved in her husband's scheme--and the Pinkerton Detective Agency was hot on her trail.

A MAN AFTER COLD, HARD CASH

Texas promised sanctuary and a place for Sugar Anne to plot her revenge. But she hadn't counted on being tracked down by handsome Webb McQuillan. McQuillan had a job to do: get Sugar Anne to lead him to her husband, recover the swindled funds, and collect a hefty reward. Problem was, he was almost certain of her innocence--and even more certain he was falling in love. . . .

Editorial Reviews

Review

Sugar Anne Herndon is furious. Her no good husband Edward has skipped town with all her money and jewels, just one step ahead of the Pinkertons. To add insult to injury, he left with another woman. Sugar Anne is left with nothing but a shattered name and a pile of debts. Though no one is impolite enough to say it, Sugar Anne is sure everyone in Chicago thinks she had some hand in Edward's fraudulent railroad scheme. If it's the last thing she ever does, Sugar Anne is going to track down that scoundrel of a spouse and make him pay. Captain Webb McQuillan of the Texas Ranger's has a new assignment. He is to track down and follow Sugar Anne Herndon and keep the Pinkerton Agency informed if she contacts her thieving husband. Webb quickly hooks up with Sugar Anne as soon as she sets foot in Texas and they soon have one misadventure after another. Webb is reluctantly drawn to the fragile yet determined Sugar Anne and soon realizes that she had nothing to do with her husband's actions. The couple is drawn into a relationship against their better judgement. Sugar Anne is a good story, full of humorous secondary characters and plenty of action and adventure. It is interesting to see how two such different individuals become drawn to each other and will do anything to achieve their objectives. Sugar Anne makes for an entertaining read for the weekend or a rainy day. Ms. Hudson's characters are full of warmth, humor, and enough liveliness to keep even the most attention wandering individual entertained! Sugar Anne is not all sweetness and light. It is quick paced and spicy! A definite must read! Ms. Hudson delivers another humorous, yet sensitive tale of love and adventure! Gloria Lower -- Copyright © 1998 Literary Times, Inc. 1.0 out of 5 stars Lying, deceitful hero and a spineless heroine, May 10, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Sugar Anne (Mass Market Paperback)
What a disappointment! The premise of the story holds so much promise, but eventually the whole scheme of things fall apart, thanks to a lying hero who just keeps lying and lying to the heroine. She's his perfect match, despite all talks to the contrary, she cannot do anything on her own without suffering from severe cases of self-doubts. These two are really annoying after a while.

I know this book is not my cup of tea when the back blurb is more entertaining than the story inside.
