This review is from: The Sugar Factory (Audio CD)
This disc confounded me when I first bought it. As Mr. Frith says in his liner notes, the music is essentially stitched together from the sessions documented in the film Touch the Sound, and has a segmented, disjoined quality about it. It demands to be heard on its own terms, and it took about a half-dozen spins before began to really appreciate its unique sensibility, its way of suggesting continuities... Once I did, though, it was like turning on a light in a dark room...
I enjoy this disc a lot, and recommend it to all who are willing to challenge the way they hear, rather than to have their present tastes reaffirmed. For those who already hear music in everything around them, this will be a welcome communion.
