4.0 out of 5 stars Canadian Version of "PopStars"
Forget edens crush Forget OTown Forget Scene 23 Goes to Show Other countries can copy America's style of creating pop bands and actually send out a good product. 3.0 out of 5 stars Good...Not Great
Sugar Jones' CD has a few good songs, and a lot of medicore ones. They can all sing fairly well, and have the makings of a chart-topping pop group. However, they fail to provide any super-catchy, smash hit type tracks. The ones I especially like are Days Like That, How Much Longer, and I Got U. Maybe if Sugar Jones releases another album they'll have better songs.

Canada Did not go with Looks over talent as America and Americans so much favor They actually went with 5 very talented women who sing their bottoms off with a pop/r&b style. Although their songs are mostly filler with the exception of Canadian radio hit "Days like this" They will surely shine if given proper exposure and better songs. Differently better than most of the dance/pop albums out there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sugar Jones - "the desire for sugar", April 6, 2002

Thought Canada was all about rock for a second didn't ya? Well Sugar Jones is awesome! They've got talent, principle and strongly voiced opinions. These amazing women came from all across Canada (Maiko from my hometown woohoo!) with the determination and strength to form one of the most sucessful pop acts in Canada! Though Maiko has now left to sing with her husband Remy Shand, they are still going strong, ready to put out new material. I wish them all the luck, though I'm sure they don't need it with their array of awards and excellent reviews. Buy the album! You'll thank me for it. It's up-beat and relaxing at the same time, depending on your mood. You are the one who sets the tone of the music. You'll catch different parts as your mood changes :)

4.0 out of 5 stars A Surprise (4.5), March 17, 2003
This review is from: Sugar Jones (Audio CD)
Somehow I got wind of the Canadian version of PopStars atfer going through a shameful, embarassing phase with Eden's Crush. So what I did was listen to the album online and realized which set of "PopStars" were better.

Sugar Jones basically blends R&B and Pop seemlessly which is not heard of that much these days (with the exception of Justin Timberlake). They even go as far as to throw in a little scatting session with Toya Alexis (I have no idea who she is but she can sing) on the best track on the album, the fluty "I Got U." The rest of the album is supported with good production (the beats are very good) and typical lyrics except for on the track "If You" which is surprisingly suggestive. But unfortunately, this set has a setback in the form of track #10, "Little Bit Of Heaven." It really has no place on the album, and it's way too sappy.

Best tracks (to me) include:
1. Days Like That (A bass heavy banger, the girls are reminded of better days)
2. How Much Longer (I'm not really sure where this song is going, but it sounds nice)
6. It's Like Ice Cream (very good track)
7. Baby Boo (2nd best track, great club track)
8. Get Yourself Together (melodic confection)
9. I Got U feat. Toya Alexis (best song on the album, the girls go back and forth with Alexis who is an obvious powerhouse)

Basically, if you crave sugar... this should suffice.

4.0 out of 5 stars Canada Knows Popstars, January 27, 2002

Aparently, the people in charge of the Canadian verson of the Popstars TV show focused on some singing talent at their auditions. I couldn't give the blanket bland pop response to this group that easily was earned by Eden's Crush (and I truely believe they earned it). That CD made me glad I DIDN'T pursue a carreer working for a record label. If Sugar Jones can get by the born on TV stigma, and is some America PD figure out a way to play a single or two, this group may last long enough to make a positive impact. The Supremes they ain't, but Sugar Jones could probably hold there own against whatever girl group that do exist today.
