Book Description

February 22, 2010
By all appearances, Ron Mattocks was leading a successful life. As he drove a fast car to and from his downtown loft and his executive job, he considered himself a good father, even transferring across the country to live closer to his three sons after his divorce. But after an unexpected economic downturn, Ron suddenly began to question everything he knew about success and fatherhood.

After surviving the ups and downs of Internet dating, Ron shares how he remarried, inherited two stepdaughters, and then lost his job, subsequently becoming a stay-at-home dad. In this hilarious and touching account of his daily battles against subversive Care Bears, fire-belching demons, the pancake mafia, and his own masculinity-all while struggling to reunite with his children-Ron provides a glimpse into how he took lemons and created not only lemonade, but a lifetime of memories with his family.

From his highest highs to his lowest lows, Ron Mattocks shares the compelling story of how, without a parenting manual in sight, he learned to fumble his way through fatherhood with modesty, courage, and a whole lot of humor.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Read March 23, 2010
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Ron's book "Sugar Milk- what one dad drinks when he can't afford vodka" is a humorous look at his journey from corporate America, where he worked as an executive in "residential home building industry" to a stay at home dad to his two step daughters. The housing bubble burst and he found himself in a world of uncertainty and Care Bears (and I am sure the Care Bears were the terrifying bit). Many men have been felled by such overwhelming odds but he battled on with humor and grace (mostly humor).

I really can't say enough about this book. I tore through it cover to cover devouring each word. It is funny, thought provoking, heart wrenching and heart felt. What more could I ask for in a memoir penned by one of my favorite bloggers.

5.0 out of 5 stars I couldn't put it down! March 29, 2010
Format:Paperback
I just finished reading Sugar Milk by Ron Mattocks and as cliche as it sounds, I couldn't put it down! I found this book endearing, charming and at times just plain hilarious. Ron gives the reader a very candid account of his transition from corporate big shot to stay at home dad. He uses humor mixed with sacrcasm to poke fun at himself as he illustrates just how complicated this can be. There are obstacles to tackle on a daily basis and situations that he finds himself in that are nothing short of awkward, hence a rather embarrassing one involing his adorable little step daughter and her teeny tiny bladder! This book shares some great lessons in parenting and just life in general. Go grab yourself a tall glass of "sugar milk" and pair it with this book and you won't be sorry!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Blend - Humorous and Touching March 23, 2010
Format:Paperback
Hilarious stories interspersed into the serious, insightful story of a caring father struggling to accept a new role as stay at home dad. Ron uses incredibly vivid descriptions (with sarcastic embellishment for sure) which will have you laughing out loud. Definitely a pleasure to read and one you'll recommend to everyone you know.
