Book Description

September 17, 2008
Vintage charm meets modern-day flair.

In their heyday between the 1930s and 1960s, colorful textile feedsacks offered an economical way for women to brighten their lives. Quilters and home-sewers scrambled to the feed store to get the prettiest sacks to turn into dresses, quilts and other items.

Sugar Sack Quilts celebrates this delightful and resourceful art form. More than reproductions of old patterns, the quilts featured here are original designs that retain that cozy, old-fashioned charm.

  • 12 projects feature original and reproduction feedsack fabrics, and are fat quarter and fat eighth friendly.
  • Quilts range from sweet little creations sized just right for hanging on a wall or tossing over the back of your favorite chair, to those large enough to grace a queen-size bed.
  • Designs vary in difficulty, from the ?Spring Bouquet? table runner (perfect for beginners) to the more challenging ?Sail Away? quilt.
  • Each project provides everything you need for happy results, including cutting lists, block patterns and complete step-by-step instructions for assembling, quilting and finishing.
From tips on collecting and cleaning feedsacks to advice on designing your own feedsack quilts, Sugar Sack Quilts is a treasure for quilters who love vintage fabrics and fresh designs.

I really enjoyed the information provided about feedsacks. I was so inspired by the book that I immediately started the little doll quilt on page 88 and I have already finished it. It turned out great. I am a begining quilter found the instructions were easy to follow and I had no problems. I would recommend this book to everyone!

Just a sweet book to read and learn from, I love reading it and enjoy the photos, even though I have never made a quilt in my life.
