3.0 out of 5 stars Sugar Solution cookbook
The information at the beginning of the book is great. It gives great tips for eating healthy and slimming down. I personnally, do not care for all of the recipes. They seem to be a bit more labor intensive than I expected and use ingredients not always on hand. A re-do of one's kitchen pantry is necessary to make sure you have on hand a lot of the ingredients.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lots of Great Meal Ideas, February 5, 2007
This review is from: The Sugar Solution Cookbook: More Than 200 Delicious Recipes to Balance Your Blood Sugar Naturally (Preventions) (Hardcover)
This book is not only a cookbook, but a meal plan and guide as well! For people like myself who desire to eat a well-rounded, nutritionally dense diet that is not overly calorie laden, this book is perfect.

The meal guide that is presented in the beginning of the book is so easy to use. It suggests healthy breakfasts, lunches, dinners and snacks (3 on most days) that accomplish the goals I mentioned above, all while keeping your blood sugar steady throughout the day. The menus suggest a nice combination of recipes from the book, convenience products and whole foods. It is very easy to use in that you can exchange meals from one day to the next to tailor your own tastes.

The recipes that I have tried have all been excellent! They are mostly very easy to prepare. The only ones I have not cared for have been the salad dressings. There is a tremendous variety in the types of foods used and suggested so that your taste buds will never be bored.

The one thing I have found, however, is that the menus do not provide enough calories to keep me full through the day. They typically range from about 1400 to 1550 calories a day, which would ideally result in a pound per week weight loss since that is about a 500 calorie per day cut from the average woman's diet, and 3500 calories make a pound (500 * 7 days). Honestly, I needed more, though. I was starving before dinner every day. I finally started doubling up the afternoon snack and was much more satisfied, and that still amounted to enough of a calorie cut for me to still lose weight. A man using this meal plan would most likely want to add more calories to it.

Mostly, however, I just love how healthy the eating plan is. No "diet" foods, just nutritionally dense foods to give you what your body needs to operate optimally. I do recommend this book to anyone who would like to eat healthy and just needs to be shown how, or anyone who doesn't have to time to plan a completely balanced menu everyday for themself.

5.0 out of 5 stars good way to feed your family, February 19, 2007

I bought the Sugar Solution because it looked like a book that was more accessible for cooking for families while being on a low glycemic diet. I tried using Zone cookbooks, but they were too hard to follow when I had to triple the recipe. My family likes the dinners, and I don't feel like a chef, cooking two meals every night--one for me, and one the rest of the family...and now I don't feel like I'm cheating when I eat what everyone else is eating for dinner!

5.0 out of 5 stars Quick, tasty meals!, May 25, 2007
This review is from: The Sugar Solution Cookbook: More Than 200 Delicious Recipes to Balance Your Blood Sugar Naturally (Preventions) (Hardcover)
I bought this book because I was looking for a cookbook that stressed nutrition. I purchased a few other cookbooks at the same time and this is by far my favorite. The book has a wide variety of delicious meals that have all been surprisingly quick and easy to prepare. Unlike many "health food" cook books, this book did not sacrifice taste to nutrition. Instead the recipies use nutritious ingredients in such a way that the flavors are enhanced and compliment each other.
I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to focus on conforming to a healthy diet but still wants to enjoy their food!

5.0 out of 5 stars This Book is Great!!, April 14, 2007
This review is from: The Sugar Solution Cookbook: More Than 200 Delicious Recipes to Balance Your Blood Sugar Naturally (Preventions) (Hardcover)
I use this on a daily basis to come up with new and healthy meal ideas that my whole family will enjoy. Not one of them has complained that they didn't like what I made. My kids scarfed up everything and even went back for 2nds! A true addition to any cooks collection, even if you're not watching your sugar. Fabulous!!

What I especially love about this cookbook, is you don't have to go search for unusual ingredients (like digging up buckwheat flour, or some other substitute). It works with commonly available ingredients in your grocery store.

I am extremely happy with this cookbook. This is I think the third book I have bought for my family and friends. I have really lost weight with this book and I have not felt hungry. I love all the spices it uses and I don't miss the sugar and butter from my old way of cooking.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is what I was looking for!, September 15, 2008
I was looking for a book with good tasting recipes, that contained ingredients that were readily available in my local market, and easy to prepare. I was looking for good nutrition, and ways to help get blood sugar under control. If I could also lose some weight, that was a plus. I was hoping to find all of these things, and meal plans. This book is it.
I found all the information at the beginning of the book very helpful. It helped me understand more about how my choices affect me. I try to make healthy choices in my eating, but a lot of the time, I just grab what's handy, especially if I'm in a hurry or stressed. I recommend this book to anyone who is looking for good nutrition, good taste, and help with meals to improve their health.

I am hypoglycemic and have found a lot of sustaining and flavorful foods in this cookbook, especially among the soups and breakfasts. The recipes do not use artificial sweeteners, which I do not care for. Just wholesome, good food.

The Kindle edition is very well designed. Each recipe is a chapter, clickable from the table of contents, and the 5-way controller allows one-click jumping from one recipe to the next. I like cookbooks on Kindle for the search function, for the ability to add highlights and notations, and for being able to select type size. Wish they all were as Kindle-friendly as this one is!
