Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Sugar, Spice and Feeling GoodFor Veda Nugent, Jamaica-born Ottawa chef and restaurateur, and her son Marrett Green, former TV journalist and now media relations specialist for Vancouver regional government, relocating did not mean leaving their wonderful tropical dishes behind. Sugar and Spice and Everything Irie: Savoring Jamaica's Flavors gathers some of their favorites, many of which have been featured in her eateries over the years. Irie, in Jamaican patois, is a greeting meaning things are okay. And they will be after sampling some of the specialties that can be created at home for everyone's enjoyment. 115 recipes such as Jerk Pork and Chicken Pat, Curry Goat, Oxtail and Lima Bean Stew, Ackee and Salted Codfish, Plantain Pudding, and Banana Rum Shake will delight fans of this most agreeable cuisine.

This is a fantastic cookbook. It gives not only great tastes but the feeling of Jamaica. For a great novel about Jamaica, look at Jamaica Girl. It's as delicious as a ripe mango.

This review is from: Sugar and Spice & Everything Irie: Savoring Jamaica's Flavors (Paperback)
This book is everything that I hoped it would be. It's well written with a little history on all recipes as well as very simple to follow instruction on how to prepare all the dishes. I love Jamaican food and do intend to try alot of the dishes in the coming weeks and months. A very good book for fellow "wanna-be" Jamaican cooks or who simply love the food. Yum!
