IT WAS A GOOD ALBUM, no matter what these haters say!,
By Philip Y. (Israel) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Suge Knight Presents: Chronic 2000 (Audio CD)
Many people talked bad about this album cause they expected it to be good as the original Chronic who is deffinetly one of the best rap albums ever. Well, it's not as outstanding as the original but I think with what Death Row have today they came out with a tight a#$ album. There are two main problems:1.There are two pretty annoying wanna-be artists on the album. They are named The Realest and Top Dogg. Those two, without any shame or respect to themselves and the industry, are doing their best to sound like rap legends 2Pac and Snoop Doggy Dogg. They are both all over the album and they copy Pac and Snoop in every possible way: both lyrically and the way they rap. It's annoying, Death Row still has enough talent to get along instead of bringing fake stars to their label. 2.Since it's a double CD album it suffers from the double-CD syndrom which means that there are a few filler songs. Songs who are pretty weak and are there just to fill the playing time. Still there're many many GREAT songs on the album. About 18 of them. On the good songs everything is just perfect as only Death ROw knows - tight gangsta production and real quality rappers. Artists who shine on the album are : The one and only 2Pac on two songs, Bay Area rapper Mac Shawn who's now signed with Death Row, Swoop G who also appeared on Murder was the case, VK- a new female rapper who isa really tight, Daz, Kurupt, Soopafly, Ant Banks, Michel'le and many more. It's a very good album and much better than many of the albums that come out these days. I admit there are about 5 or 6 tracks not worth listening to. Just don't listen to them, listen to all the rest. The rest are just AWSOME and sound like Death Row at their best, when they were the greatest label in Rap music.

Death Row,

I thought the Chronic 2000 album was O.K. I just thought they were reaching for past glory. The beats were O.K. but I think it was disrespectful for Death Row to go and get a fake Tupac. In order to be the Realest, you have to be real, an original. The songs I did like was the one with Mac Shawn, and the songs with the REALEST Tupac you are going to find, Tupac Shakur. I'm not trying to be a hater or nothing, I understand that people got to make their money but don't sell your soul. People should learn to honor the dead and quit biting fools styles, voices, and image. The album was cool, Swoop G spit some heat. I like VK she seemed to be the only original. She has skills that can be developed, she is a dope MC. But the Realest, Top Dogg, and Milkbone need to hang up your mic cords. I also like Hey Beautiful Lady with Danny Boy and K-Ci and the Dogg Pound songs. As for the title the Chronic 2000 Still Smokin, it was a low blow trying to take that man's album name but he blew ya doors off with 2001. They should have named this one Bammer 2000 Still Chokin' Death Row is back, but yall need some new artists. Most of these cats suck. Sincerely The 9-1-Sickest

anyone who gave this cd more than a couple of stars must beworking for them or something, this CD is pretty weak. The Realestand Top Dogg trying to sound like other people, nothing is funnier than the two of them on the song "They Wanna Be Like Us" heh. No one wants to be a fake tupac or a fake snoop dogg like these guys.

PAC JUST BEING ON 2 TRACKS ON A DOUBLE CD JUST DON'T STRETCH THE SALES. DEATH ROW SHOULD BE ON DEATH ROW. PAC WOULD BE ASHAMED TO SEE HIS POETIC MASTERMIND LACED OVER SOME WACC TRACKS LIKE THESE. AMERICA DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY, MORE IMPORTANTLY YOUR TIME. THIS IS A NO BRAINER AND WHEN YOU SEE IT LEAVE IT ON THE SELVES. R.I.P. 2-PAC AKA MAKAVELLI

I WAS ALL EXCITED WHEN I WENT TO BUY THIS ALBUM THINKING IT WOULD THE GREATEST THING EVER BOUGHT BUT IT TURNED OUT, THIS ALBUM AINT THAT GREAT. WHEN YOU HEAR THA DOGG POUND ON THIS CD YOU WOULDN'T KNOW IT WAS THEM UNLESS YOU LOOKED AT THE BACKOF THE CD, ONLY TWO 2PAC SONGS, AND SNOOP OR DRE WERE NOT EVEN ON THE CD. AND I NEVER THOUGHT DEATH ROW WOULD GET SOOOOOOO DESPERATE THEY GOT TOPP DOGG (who sounds like snoop dogg) THA REALIST (2Pac) VK (lady of rage. ALL-THOUGH I LIKE ALL THESE RAPPERS I NEVER THOUGHT DEATHROW WOULD GET SO DESPERATE TO SIGN THESE RAPPERS.

Your NOT 2Pac, Your NOT Snoop,
This review is from: Suge Knight Presents: Chronic 2000 (Audio CD)
Tha row has always had great rappers come and go, but what happens when they run out of rappers? Hmmmm..... get fakes that think they are the original great death row rappers. Enter Tha Realest and Top Dogg. Neither of them are Pac or Snoop, but both sound exactly like them. Tha Realest even looks a lot like Pac (haven't seen Top Dogg). Then Top Dogg decides since he can't write his own rhymes (**he thinks hes Puff too**) he'll just try to copy one of Snoop's songs. Why not? He took everything else. I'm not sayin these rappers don't have skills, maybe they do, but, if you can help it, dont try to sound like legends in tha game is what I say, ok? I can't say that that's not there natural voice, but if it isnt, I got no respect for em. I just wanna know why they didnt throw Guerilla Black in the mix. What the hell? He claims west too.

When labels get desperate (3 and 1/2 stars),

After Tupac died and Snoop left Deathrow, most people thought it was over for the record label. In 1999 they dropped this album. The thing is they have these two clones by the name of The Realest and Topp Dogg who kind of make listening to this album somewhat difficult. Top Dogg is a Snoop clone without the swagger and soul of Snoop Dogg. The Realest is the most dispicable Pac clone there is. I almost fell for his impression until I realized that he had a problem rapping on beat(something Pac never had a problem with). Despite these flaws the album is not that bad. Disc 1: Chronic 2000 feat Treach is okay. It has some female rapper by the name of VK who sounds like a cross between Yukmouth and The Lady Of Rage. Who Do You Believe In is that vintage 2pac track that brings you back to the 2pacalypse Now days. I Thought You Knew feat Mac-Shawn, E-40 and Daz Dillinger is tight. Mac-Shawn and Daz also shows up on It Goin Down also feat The Realest. Swoop G takes a shot at Snoop Dogg on Dont Forget Where You Came From. Soopafly's Like It Or Not is cool. Easy To Be A Soldier When There Aint No War features The Realest, Swoop G and Lil C-Style dissing Snoop and No Limit. Top Dogg's We Dont Love Em is passable because of the dope beat by DJ Quik and The Dogg Pound saved the track Because Of You Girl also featuring The Realest. The flaws of Disc 1: I hate Gotta Love Gangsta's feat Scarface and Richie Rich(both of there verses were tight) The Realest's Pac biting makes this song unbearrable. Top Dogg Cindafella is boring. Stand Strong has nice vocals by Danny Boy and Jewell but once again Tha Realest pac impersonation is almost painful to listen too. I almost threw up when I heard Stand Strong. Disc 2: Daz's Roll Wit Us is tight. 2pac's Late Night feat Kadafi and Fatal Hussein is a classic. Og To Bg by The Dogg Pound feat Soopafly is a vintage Dogg Poun track that reminds you of the Dogg Food days. Michel'le's Wanna Be Loved feat VK is not bad and Ride Or Get Rode On by Bad Habitz is dope. Flaws of Disc 2: Drinks On Me by Ant Banks and Captain Save'em is garbage. They Wanna Be Like Us is laughable because it features Tha Realest and Top Dogg blasting wannabes(LOL). Im Comin Home by Tha Realest is just as painful to listen to as Stand Strong. Im Country by Doobie is so wack its funny. Presenting Miilkbone by Miilkbone is a wack diss record aimed at Eminem with a beat that sounds like My Name Is jazzed up. Vk's The Things Your Man Wont Do is a story about Vk finding out her man is gay but the song fails miserably. Now What by Capricorn has a nice beat but Capricorn cant rap. Mr Officer by Michel'le, Captain Save'em and El Dorado is wack but its the last song so its excusable. In closing Chronic 2000 is not a bad double CD even though the clones might get on your nerves and the vast amounts of filler make it a chore to listen too. Its still one of the better Deathrow releases. Standout Tracks on Disc 1: CHRONIC 2000, WHO DO YOU BELIEVE IN, I THOUGHT YOU KNEW, ITS GOIN DOWN, DONT FORGET WHERE YOU CAME FROM, EASY TO BE A SOLDIER WHEN THERE AINT NO WAR, BEAUTIFUL LADY and BECAUSE OF YOU GIRL. Standouts on Disc 2: ROLL WIT US, LATE NIGHT, OG TO BG, WANNA BE LOVED and RIDE OR GET RODE ON.

Was trying to get my hands on this one for a while and when I finally did, I was kinda disappointed. Mainly because I was expecting two discs of nothing but gangsta rap. However, this cd has a few R&B tracks, which can't be helped because this cd is really about Suge putting out his soldiers from the Deathrow roster, which includes a few R&b artists.
Yes, there are two rappers on Deathrow called Tha Realist, who sounds exactly like a robotic version of the late Tupac, and Topp Dogg, who take a wild guess, sounds almost exactly like Snoop Dogg lol. I would be mad at Suge for this but, I find that both these rappers are actually not that bad on the mic. It's too bad that Crooked I ain't on here, as he hadn't yet joined Death Row. I would recommend this to hardcore fans of Deathrow, otherwise pick up "Too Gangsta For Radio Instead".

Exactly, this album was a must as soon as I could get my hands on it. Most albums today are tring to change there styles through the album, but this is what I expected to be from Death Row Records...Solid throughout! It's true that "Tha Realest" & "Top Dogg" are not as good as 2Pac & Snoop but they sure do a good job at it. VK is surposed to be The Lady Of Rage. Most tracks are good to excellent, reaching there past style of glory "Mr Officer" "Gotta Love Gangsta's" "chronic 2000" whilst including some new stuff "It's Easy Being A Soldier When There Ain't No War" which is top enough to beat most things out these days. Get this Album, you will not be disappointed, even if it cost's a little more, there are no fillers in this Double CD, great from top to bottom.

Yo listen up, i just copped this cd and it is john blazin!!! these new death row inmates: top dogg, tha realest, swoop g, soopafly, vk, miilkbone, and bad habitz are just as good as the old ones!!! well, realest and top dogg aren't 2pac and snoop's level but they are good enough. the only weak ones are mac shawn and doobie. also tha doggpound, outlawz, danny boy and michel'le are back! almost every song on this albulm is tight even though they took off the dre songs, if those songs wers till on here this cd would be too good to be true. but yo, yall gotta check this cd out, its better than both the new snoop and the ruff ryders disc, trust me.
