Chainrings are riveted, not bolted on!,

This review is from: Sugino Impel 150 x 170mm Silver Arms 28-38-48 7-8-Speed Crankset (Misc.)
I ordered the 28/38/48 version to replace the damaged original triple crankset on a 1994 Bridgestone X04 hybrid bike. The Sugino Impel crankset is solid, appears well made, and it is not overly heavy at 690g. The 4-hole chainrings are made of thin stamped steel, and are of the so-so design/materials you'd expect given the Impel is at the lower end of Sugino's crankset product line. A bonus: the middle and outer chainrings are indeed ramped and pinned to ease shifting.I paired the crankset with a new 110 mm Shimano UN54 sealed bottom bracket, which provides the correct chainline given that the seat tube diameter of my X04 bike frame is 28.7mm (1-1/8in). Remember to buy crank arm fixing bolts if you don't already have them as they are NOT included with the Sugino Impel. Note that the specs concerning the chainrings are incorrect (unless they have been corrected since I made my purchase in Sept 2011). All three steel chainrings are 64 BCD, none are 104 BCD. Also, the chainrings are RIVETED on, e.g., the rings are not replaceable. If the chainrings become damaged, you will have to replace the entire crank set. Perhaps it's not a tragedy given this Sugino crankset is not overly expensive in the first place, but it is something you should know BEFORE you buy rather find out when you open the box. If you prefer to have a 28/38/48 crankset with replaceable chainrings, look instead at the somewhat heavier and slightly more expensive Shimano Alivio M411.
