Suicide By My Side,

I don't even know what to say. Children of Bodom was my favorite band, and when I found out that Alexi plays lead guitar in Sinergy, I bought this album. Alexi Laiho is a great guitarist, but in Children of Bodom, he also performs vocals, so his skill is only shown during solos. On this album, every song is packed with non-stop shred. This guy is amazing. I don't know why his work isn't rated up along with Yngwie and Vai. Honestly, he may not be quite as fast, but the music he writes is newer and more exciting than most of the shredders of today. Also, Kimberly's vocals have a really classic sound to them, which is something "different" with all the other metal around today. Every song is put together really well. There isn't one thing I would change about this album. "Spit on Your Grave" is the standout song on the album, and for good reason. It is just.... addictive. The guitar riff will not stay out of my head. I listen to the song all the time. It's really an impressive piece of music. I would recommend this CD to anyone who enjoys and kind of metal. 5 Stars is the least that this CD deserves.

Ok, first of all disregard the idiot below comparing Kim Goss to rob halford (and even apparently not recognizing the fact that a woman is singing not a man) and also saying "listen to Arch Enemy because that is where alexi went after sinergy" Moron! Alexi Laiho was not/ is not/ will never be in Arch enemy, that band has the mighty Amott brothers on guitar. Alexi is in Sinergy still and the more popular band Children of Bodom. This album is great, Spit on your grave is the best Sinergy song ever. Some other standouts are "Written in Stone", "The Sin Trade", "Violated", and "Me, Myself, My Enemy". Definitely worth picking up, more so than the previous sinergy albums.

I first discovered Sinergy when I was listening to Iron Maiden covers, and heard their version of "The Number of the Beast". I was very impressed with it, so I looked into them further. Suicide by my Side has some excellent metal that you can listen to on repeat for many hours. The album is mostly about suicide, but even if you don't particularily feel like listening to such topics, the songs are catchy enough that they grow on you anyway. Definitely worth the money!

Lookout Amott Brothers(Arch Enemy,Carcass),soilwork and even John Petrucci, here comes the new axe slingers. This album is amazing from beginning to end.Reminds you of the good ole Metallica(though much more melodic) day's when you picked up the album and said they can do no wrong.Although its a girl singer(kimberly gross)she doesnt sound at all feminine, which for this type of music is good. She does have her softer moments but always gives a solid delivery. These guitarist's should also be hailed along with Jason Becker,Marty Friedman(very similar to Cocaphony stuff),Joe Sat.,John Petrucci, and Steve Vai.I'm sure after a few more albums like these they will get it.Very good stuff not a nonmelodic note throughout the whole LP.Get it and enjoy.

To Die For,

These days metal seemed to be pigeon holed into a greater number of sub categories such as death, black,... prog, power etc... its nice to run into a band that just plays straight ahead old style metal. This is the third and best outing from Sinergy. The two masterminds and driving force of the group are the controversial lead singer Kim Goss and the Children of Bodom guitarist Alexi Laiho. I don't want to slight the contribution made by Sinergy's second guitarist so I'll mention Rope Latvala is integral to the success of this album since he did a fair chuck of the song writing and his guitar playing is terrific. The album starts off with its strongest track called "I Spit On Your Grave". Sinergy quickly establish their intricate, blistering dual guitar attack of Laiho and Latvala. The ability of these two bring up comparison to famed guitar duos of the past such Judas Priest's Tipton and Downing, and Iron Maiden's Murray and Smith. They are not there yet but they are certainly not far off. The variety of styles the two-guitarist employ through out the album is amazing from the fast fat riffs that serves as an intro to "Me, Myself, My Enemy". To very technical passages such as in "The Sin Trade" and to very melodic riffs that are the basis of "Passage To Fourth World". The guitar work throughout the CD is amazing and if you are a guitar nut this is reason enough to pick up this album. The vocals of Kim Goss are also quite different from the majority of her female metal contemporaries. Her vocals are far grittier and aggressive with out being any less melodic. Kim's vocals are refreshing contrast from what is fast becoming the norm for female fronted lead singers in metal. They meld perfectly with type of metal Sinergy plays. The best songs on this are the intense "I Spit On Your Grave", the speedy and aggressive "Violated", the cool vocal lines make "Passage To Fourth World" a stand out and the sonic assault of "Shadow Island" where Kim and Alexi Laiho sort of duet. "Suicide By My Side" is a great straight up metal album that will captivate fans of terrific guitar playing. Also the best place to start if you want to check out Sinergy.

... On this Thier third CD release.Kimberly's (Goss) vocals are very powerfull and represent one of the better female vocalists in metal.I love woman metal singers and this is what drew Me to purchase all three releases but, the biggest step forward for this one is the dual lead guitars!!! Alex Laiho and Roope Latvala take to the next level what has always been part of the Sinergy sound - very intricate, technical and smoking dual lead guitar solo's!!! Sinergy have really put it all together on CD number three - It's already on My top 10 list for 2002 and will probablly stay there!!!

Female Fronted Power Metal,

"Oh Yeah Maiden. If you like Rob Halferd then you will like the lead singer of sinergy. It has the same problem as maiden the music rocks and the frontman kills it. Listen to Arch Enemy if you like the guitar cause that is where Alexi went after Sinergy."
First of all Rob Halford is the Lead Vocalist of Judas Priest NOT Iron Maiden, Maidens frontman is Bruce Dickenson. Alexi Laiho not only is still in Sinergy playing lead guitar but as formally mentioned is also is as always the frontman of his far more popular band Children of Bodom. You want to put this band down, Thats fine with me.. But try to use FACTS next time! Now, On to Sinergy's Suicide by My Side. This is straight forward Power Metal, No filler attached. Prepare to hear mindnumbing Dual Guitars that(to be honest)sound extremely similar to the guitar work on early Bodom records, Perhaps a bit more melodic. Power Metal isn't known for great bass lines, And this is continued here. They aren't bad B-Lines, They fit well and are fairly complex, But as with most PM bands are overthrown by the wailing guitar most of the time. The Drumming is very good and prospers well with the minor B-Lines and Outstanding Guitar work. Now, The most vivid point aside Alexi is Kimberly Goss as vocalist. In one word, Amazing. Goss sticks to standard Power Metal High Pitched Vocals.. But being female she can bend and soar her voice in ways men can not, Besides perhaps the almost ironically misplaced Rob Halford. And don't think Nightwish.. Operatic.. Think Iced Earth as far as vocals. All in all every album Sinergy have released thus far has been high above expectations, and the Dual Guitar wizards leave no man or woman standing once the deed is done. Be prepared to here Alexi's trademark breakneck spped solo's cause they are included. On another note if your interested in Kimberly Goss' other work, Check out the Black Metal album 'The Cainian Chronicle' by the band 'Ancient' she was a guest vocalist through out the album. A word of Caution Ancient is a Traditional Black Metal band.. Its much heavier then Sinergy.. Much.

Best of their catelog,

Frontman kills it? Try frontwoman. She is one of the best vocalists out there and this album is no exceptions. She sings much harsher than their previous albums and along side now husband Alexi Loho they make a rediculous team. Alexi's guitar playing is some of his best and the melodies are crushing. By the way, Maiden's vocalist definitely does not "kill" the music and Kimberly Goss does not even sound remotely like Rob Halford. Case in point, this is one of the best powermetal releases out there and definitely the best of their catelog.

This is killer metal at it's finest! The band as a whole, is incredible. Alexi Leiho & Kimberly Goss do an outstanding job. But, many people seem to leave out (or forget about) Roope Latvala (2nd lead guitarist) in this band. This guy can BURN up the fretboard just as well as Alexi! I loved "To Hell & Back", and HAD to get this one! And let me tell you, this album is pure guitar-shreddfest-killer-metal! :D Long Live Underground Metal!

Future Classic,

This is one of the few albums I feel compelled to write a review for, out of the 500 something albums I own that would fit the purist definition of Metal. This is amazing. Blows the last two Sinergy albums out of the water. If anyone writes that this is just like the last one, they're dead wrong. And it most certainly is a big departure from Beware The Heavens. This one is far more consistent, inspirational, anthemetic, gritty, passionate, and fluid. It has everything: vocals that sound great that also have a lot of passion, excellant non-wanky guitar playing that also fits the song, top-notch hooks, great riffs, an appropriate production(good, but not digitally sterile), and a non-stop assault. This is more traditional heavy metal, where a band has a more traditional style and unique sound. Highly recommended. |
