I decided to give this a try even though I could not find any information on the web about them.
The short version is, this is an excellent bag and you would have to spend over $100 to get a better one. its well made and so far has been very warm in sub 50'F temps. I would not hesitate to use this at its 30' rating. It has all the same features as the rest of the bags on the market. Its comfy and very light, Although I would not really call it ultralight, but since it compresses down so small, it fits my needs just fine. the guy holding it in the picture must have massive hands! its not quite that small unless you spend an hour compressing it. But, Its small enough just by stuffing it into the compression sack and synching up the straps, I can fit this, with the rest of my gear into my 3000ci pack. So I really don't care if its half a pound heavier than the $100 bags. The compression straps are slightly different than the photo. But otherwise, The description on amazon is accurate. I had no problem getting the bag back into the stuff sack and I was not afraid to pull as hard as possible on the compression straps. Although I found that its not necessary to compress it very much, Its good to know Its built well. If you really wanted to save another ounce or two, you could do away with the compression straps alltogether. Once in the stuff sack, it only measures 14x7 then it only compresses down to 12x7 (maybe smaller) UPDATE: (10-4-2010) I've had this bag over a year now and used it more than a dozen times in various situations and conditions. The more I use it, the more I love it. The coldest I've used it was lower 30's on a boat. The temp inside the boat was maybe 34. I was fine sleeping in shorts, socks and a long sleeve shirt. I've slept outside in a tent in low to mid 40's with no issues. I would still completely trust it in 30 degree's with a tent (and some wool socks!). I've also slept comfortably in mid-to-upper 60's outside, as well as room temps indoors. The stuff sack and compression straps have held up just fine, and I don't foresee any problems in the near future. Still a great bag that should easily last several years.

I have owned this bag for almost a year now. I have taken it on countless trips (countless equals 10 to 20) including Sedona, the Grand Canyon, the Superstition Wilderness, and Coon Creek. I have used it in temperatures ranging from 28 to 70 degrees F. I have kicked it, squished it, sat on it, soaked it, and covered it in campfire sparks and so far it shows no sign of wear.
It is a very light, small bag; though not as small as the picture makes it seem (look at the customer pictures to get a better idea). It takes some effort to get it into the stuff sack - usually takes about five minutes. It is very light; I think the Amazon description is right about the weight. This bag did not keep me comfortable below 40 degrees F, though at 40 and above it was quite nice. I ended up getting a silk liner for it, and that made it tolerable down to 28, though it was still a little chilly. The zipper, collar, and hood configuration are convenient and comfortable, but the zipper does stick sometimes. One of the best features about this bag is its ability to dry. My camelback bladder emptied into my pack once at the beginning of the day and completely soaked everything inside. When I took out my bag at night, I was devastated because it was 35 degrees and the wind was howling like mad. I turned it inside out and hung it on a tree and it was dry in less than five minutes! It was awesome. In summary, this bag is a little bigger than the Amazon description, the zipper sticks sometimes, and by itself it's only good down to 40 degrees; however, it is very durable, comfortable, lightweight, and super cheap. Definitely recommended.

The sleeping bag itself is great. Its tall, it cinches around your face, it has a pocket inside with a zipper, it's warm, it's light.
BUT, as soon as I got it, I took it out of the box and saw that it wasn't compressed. I wanted to show my sister how the compression sack worked but as I started to pull on the second strap, the cheap plastic buckle snapped into 3 pieces. I couldn't believe it. I was leaving on my trip in a week and had no time to return it for a new one. I just tied that strap into a knot and it seemed to work alright. So, #1 great bag #2 cheap plastic buckles that break when you pull on them My recommendation is to get the bag because it's great but when compressing, pull slowly a little at a time on each strap as you turn the bag. If you do that, it really does get as small as the picture. Oh, and you don't have to roll up the bag to get it in the sack. Just jam it in, it works without a lot of effort.

excellent bag for the $$
packs up extremely small and light. The picture with the hand holding it up is for real. I am 5'10 and about #200 my shoulders go wide and when zipped all the way up, well it will zip but is a tight fit In my case I will be using this bag for motorcycle camping so it's small size and lightweight were determining factors. I will be using this bag in warmer weather so I don't see a need to zip all the way up so I am keeping the bag. and am happy with it.

This product is just what i have been looking for. I am an avid MTN climber and hiker. the image on amazon is the exact same as the product i received. it is very well made, it really is as small as the picture. Before purchasing this product i read all the reviews as you are now. i have already recommended this product to a couple of my friends and my dad. i bought this bag because of its low costs compared to comparable bags of $250 or more. you definitely get your moneys worth. i have had no problems getting the bag back into the compression sack and making it as small as the picture. it fits into my 3400 just like i wanted. as for warmth it suits my needs just fine. the 30 degree rating is accurate. i am planning on using this bag on my trip to climb Ben Nevis in scotland this winter. it is made in the USA if that concerns you. the materials are top notch. however if you are planning on using the bag at 0 degree temps i would recommend you get a silk or better, a merino liner. another neat trick is to crack open a few hot hands body warmers and toss them into the bottom of the bag (2 should do it). this gives you the extra heat output to keep you toasty through the night. I am 152 lbs 5',10'' athletic build. the bag is light weight but as others have said i would not call it Ultralite. hope this helps.

Great Bag for the Price,

My wife and I completed an Appalachian Trail thru-hike with this bag. I used mine for 750 miles, but swapped for a 45 degree bag for rest of the way since I sleep hot. My wife used it the entire way (2,179 miles). Not ultra-lite, but for the money you cannot beat it. 149 nights of use and no major zipper issues. Survived commercial washers fine and hang dried in a few hours.
Not sure of accuracy of temp rating since there is not a uniform measurement in the US, but we were fine with long underwear down to the high teens/low 20's at the start of hike in March. Solid all around weather bag for $150 discount.

Excellent bag and compresses fine,

I used this bag for 2 nights in the smokeys and it was below 30 each night with wind blowing off of snow... This bag was perfectly warm, looks very nice, well built, fine zippers. It even compressed back into the stuff sack without a problem each morning so long as you took care to fold in half and then tightly roll. I would recommend this product to anyone.

i have never been good at repacking my sleeping bags. terrible in fact. then i bought this one. even i, a moron, can pack this bag. the compression bag is the reason. my nightmare is to not be able to get this back in my pack and have to hike it out by carrying it. but this bag is so easy. no worries. i'm 6ft. average build and i had plenty of room. really is good for 30 degrees. with the right wardrobe, maybe a little less. good price too.

When I first opened the box, I found the bag was already in the stuff sack, cinched down pretty tight. I had to snarl at this, because it's very bad to store bags that way (they lose their loft, which is what gives them their insulating qualities, i.e. makes them work), and there was no telling how long it had been stored that way. Then, after taking the bag out, the material seemed very thin, even for such a lightweight bag, so I was more than a little apprehensive about how warm it would be. In short, my first impression was a very poor one and I was sure that I had made a bad decision with this purchase.
But then I actually tried it out. I slept outside all night when the mercury dropped down to around 24 degrees, and I was nothing but toasty and warm. The full chest baffle is a nice touch and helps a good bit, as do the dual cinch cords. The smooth-operating, two-way zipper allows ventilation for when it's not quite so chilly. My only complaint now is that it's a little long for me, which leaves a lot of empty space in the bottom of the bag, so it takes a little while for my feet to warm up. But, considering I've had this problem with just about every bag I've ever owned, this is probably more my fault for being on the short side. So, first impressions aside, I'm very happy with this product. As the title of this review suggests, I have never found a bag this lightweight that works so well, at least not for less then $150. It's lighter, warmer, and packs smaller than bags I've seen for twice the price. Highly recommended.

Great Bag for the Dough,

Nice bag for the money. It is small as the picture shows and I found it easy to roll, pack in the bag and cinch up. All I did was fold the bag in half and rolled from the toe to the head of the bag, making sure to roll it small and straight. The Cinch sack is slightly tight but it needs to be in order to keep the bad smaller. I was able to go from being in the bag to having it cinched up in less than 3 minutes. I think the buckles are fine but keep in mind to pull straight down on the straps and I'd slowly pull down the straps, alternating straps, using two at a time on the opposite site to get an even cinching without too much strain on the straps. I've done this process 8 times now and have had no problems of consequence. I am very cold natured so I personally wouldn't use the bag below 45 but that is me.
P.S. If you are new to camping, keep in mind most temp ratings are based on you being in a tent, on a pad of some kind and you wearing some clothing. |
