in a nutshell ,this song is very catchy ,,not great but good and its pretty much flows in with the other not great songs you will here day to day on the radio. jay z's verse added nothing to the song actually its the worse part of the song and im a jay z fan saying this, i expected more got less and i hope the album has better songs cause this song alone isnt drawing me in to wanting to buy it yet

What a terrific smokin' song song and then inexplicably, a totally lame rap by Jay-Z -- like throwing cold water on a hot fire.
What were they thinking???

After nearly a 7-year hiatus, Justin Timberlake makes a valiant return to music with his buzz single Suit & Tie featuring JAY Z. "Suit & Tie" contrasts the electro-pop helmed sound of FutureSex / LoveSounds single "SexyBack" in favor of more urban-pop/soul flair. The beginning of "Suit & Tie" is in a chopped an screwed style with Timberlake bragging "I be on my suit and tie S***...can I show you a few things...let me show you a few things..." The groove switches to blue-eyed soul, sunny sounding pop with Justin Timberlake diving right into his schmaltzy (but appealing) music style. His falsetto remains sweet, even if it sounds more aged than he did when he was a twenty something on "Cry Me A River" from 2002's blockbuster Justified.

Jay-Z adds the obligatory rap verse in typical Hov fashion, but no one would dub it his greatest collaborative verse. As Jay-Z raps, the style returns to the slowed down, chopped and screwed fashion of the opening, with JT even continuing on. Finally the signature horn riff re-initiates the pop-soul groove to close out the cut.

Overall, "Suit & Tie" receives accolades in itself for initiating Justin Timberlake's much awaited return to pop/R&B music. In a time in music where younger pop male artists influenced by Timberlake (as well as Usher and of course Michael Jackson) seem to be taking the reins, it is great to have Timberlake back. As far as the greatness of "Suit & Tie", it's likable, but no "Cry Me A River". I do like the urban vibe. Not perfect, but certainly catches one's ears. 3 ˝ stars.

3.0 out of 5 stars More JT and less JZ March 12, 2013
Verified Purchase
I love this song, well until JZ pipes up. Why oh why do successful and talented artist today feel that adding a rapper to their work somehow gives it credit or enhances it? If JT wants to do a rap song then fine, do one. Suit and Tie would have been a much better song on its own without the added static from JZ. Just saying, you asked for my input…

Love the song, could have done without Jay Z's part in the middle, could have been much better done. All the rest of the song is great.

I'm not crazy about the introduction/beginning of the song. I like the groove, however. Good dance music for night spots.

You can't go wrong with a J.T. song, and this one is super smooth, cool and stylish. Also, J.T. is a true multi-talented entertainer.

2.0 out of 5 stars bad language
not appropriate for young ones. even if it is Justin timberlake. Heck, not appropriate for me! I thought I was getting the version that plays on the radio.

4.0 out of 5 stars Justin
This guy is terrific. Can do without the snug rap by JAY Z, who gives himself too much credit. His continued use of "ho" is broke.

Justin Timberlake is a great artist, and adding Jay Z to the mix helps out tremendously. Love the beat, love the hook, love everything about it!

So different from whatever else is out there. But still current & plays well. And showcases his all around cuteness. But all grown up cuteness. You go Justin! Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Love this song, but this version- meh
I like the radio edit version of this song better. There's too much fluff added in to this version for my taste.

5.0 out of 5 stars love it
Big fan of Justin Timberlake! Knew this song would be a hit the first time I heard it. JT is one of a rare breed of musicians left in the R&B game.
