a bit abstract, yet flawless performance & recording,
By Murky (WA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Suite for Frida Kahlo (Audio CD)
This is an Audioquest super audiophile recording produced by Joe Harley. I have the original 200 gram LP pressing of this album. I bought it for the sonics but I keep listening to it over and over for the musicianship.
The recording is flawless - crystal clear and totally natural sounding with incredible dynamic range. No compression or artificial emphasis here, just jaw dropping sound that is as good as it gets. The Suite is a bit in the abstract/modern style of jazz but not excessively so, still quite listenable with some great ensemble and solo work. The first couple of tracks are more standard jazz tunes. The musicianship throughout is top notch, especially Newton on Flute and Akagi on piano. |
