Superb Collection - Lots of music in 2 CDs!, July 1, 2008
I recently discovered the beautiful artistry of Dave Swarbrick as I was tooling around youtube. He has an extensive discography, and I'm pleased to have chosen this anthology as my first Swarb purchase. The first disc, 21 tracks, is traditional folk, and a few modern compositions, notably the title track composed by Sandy Denny; in the second disc, 9 tracks- Broadcast Live from the Cambridge Folk Festival 1980 (Dave Swarbrick and Friends) & 1984 (Whippersnapper),- mostly with vocals- you feel the fun and excitement of live music and also get glimpses into his personality.
The liner notes trace Swarbrick's recording history and includes photos.
I think my next Swarb disc will be Rags, Reels, and Airs.
The trills in his playing make me think of rivulets of ribbons- I guess that's how I visualize the beauty of it..

Fiddle British Style: Swarb is the Best!!!, May 17, 2010
This review is from: It Suits Me Well: Anthology (Audio CD)
I cannot be objective about this CD. I have been a Swarbrick fan since I stopped playing classical violin and first heard the band Fairport Convention. I have been practicing his mandolin medley of fiddle tunes from Full House all of my fiddling life.
Some people say there is no such thing as British cuisine...and that there is no real British fiddle music. Dave dispels the latter myth from the first time his bow touches the fiddle strings. His playing is inspiring, amazing, full of virtuosity and depth. If you don't know Dave Swarbrick, you don't know fiddling, and that includes, in my mind, all of the greats on recording since Eck Robertson in the 1920s. With a great ear, he can adapt to accompanying just about any music, to stepping out front with a great medley.
I wore out a few Fairport LPs listening to his playing, and long before I found out about many other great fiddlers, but this recording is an great introduction to Swarbrick, but once you hear it you will look for the many others that have come out on CD. Happy hunting!
