A beautiful book, I enjoyed the information on Ayurveda which was presented in lucid and readable style. The soopa section (soups) have been a great success at home. Its design and content makes it an ideal gift, which is what I have been doing for some birthdays. Thanks for the lovely book.

Sukham Ayu, the latest cookbook by award winning authors Jigyasa Giri and Pratibha Jain, is a celebration of ayurvedic way of eating. With easy to prepare flavorful recipes Sukham Ayu is one of the most accessible tools to learn about self-healing food. Filled with gorgeous photographs, fresh flavors, and practical advice, the book presents the reader with delicious recipes against a backdrop of the rhythms of nature and food as medicine.
From slow-simmered curries with layered flavors to quickly sautéed dishes, these delectable recipes explore the wide world of ayurvedic cuisine beginning with a platter of sweet dishes followed by healthy soopas, an incredible range of aromatic vegetable dishes, tastefully spiced dals, home style breads and rice dishes, irresistible snacks, colorful salads and chutneys to soothing juices and thirst- quenching drinks. Much more than a wonderful cookbook, Sukham Ayu serves as a concise introduction to ayurveda: the book opens with a primer on the three doshas or constitutions. Readers will learn how to identify their ayurvedic type; detect imbalances; select foods, and, most importantly, put the power to heal in their own hands. The recipes demonstrate how to vary ayurvedic meals to nurture each of the ayurvedic types. Sukham Ayu both inspires and empowers; awakening the senses and unlocking the alluring world of ayurvedic way of eating. It is a great addition to any cookbook collection.

This review is from: Sukham Ayu: Cooking at Home with Ayurvedic Insights (Gourmand Winner - Best Health & Nutrition Cookbook in the World - Second Place) (Hardcover)
Yet another excellent contribution from Jigyasa and Pratibha. This one teaches you a little bit about your body type according to ayurveda, and what foods to avoid, etc. It gives healthy yet tasty options accordingly. Of course, need I mention that this item is definitely worth giving as a gift? Definitely, a collector's item. The composition and presentation of text and pictures are admirable. The book also discusses well-rounded meal plans.

Too expensive,
By Priti (CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Sukham Ayu: Cooking at Home with Ayurvedic Insights (Gourmand Winner - Best Health & Nutrition Cookbook in the World - Second Place) (Hardcover)
It was a good book, but based on the content, I though it was too expensive so I returned it. It is like a regular cookbook with a few ayurvedic pointers as to why we use certain foods. Being born and raised in India, I did get similar recipes and insights from my mom so I thought it was not worth the $29.99 I paid. I would have kept it if were less than $10

Delivers what it claims,
This review is from: Sukham Ayu: Cooking at Home with Ayurvedic Insights (Gourmand Winner - Best Health & Nutrition Cookbook in the World - Second Place) (Hardcover)
Presented in uncomplicated fashion, easy to comprehend and practical for everyday usage, this is a must for everyone who wish to cook keeping in mind the ayurvedic insights. The books's subtitle "Cooking at Home with Ayurvedic insights" is so appropriate. It makes the tenets of Ayurveda easy to follow in your home with ingredients to be found in most Indian kitchens. Exotic ingredients are certainly not a prerequisite to great cooking! It is how we use the simple ingredients available in our kitchen wisely, that is imporant in day to day cooking. Sukham Ayu just tells us that! I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for an insight into the vegetarian cooking and Ayurvedic principles to imbibe in their day to day life.

A well-written book with insights into ayurvedic food combinations and very simple, authentic, healthful vegetarian recipes. As an avid cook and sometime cooking instructor, I plan to make most of the recipes in this book. With the information in the recipes, I think fairly novice Indian cooks can many of these foods. While some recipes require ingredients used specifically in Indian cooking, it is now easy enough in the US and other countries to access and Indian grocers and get these ingredients. The authors, Jigyasa and Pratibha, have stunning images and colors in their second cookbook. Their first cookbook, "Cooking at Home with Pedatha" is one I already own as well.

A true sequel to [ASIN:8190299301 Cooking at Home with Pedatha (Best Vegetarian Book in the World - Gourmand Winner)] by the same duo Jigyasa & Pratibha. As soon as I saw that they had brought out their next book, I purchased it and I must say, I cant decide which one is better. Enjoyed reading the Ayurvedic information in small packets and understanding myself better in the process. Love the colour scheme of orange and maroon!

How I long to visit India, and learn about Ayurvedic cooking and healing. While the miles may separate me from the green jungles and roads, I have been granted one of life's finest gifts from India, the friendship of Jigyasa Giri and Pratibha Jain.
Although the miles between us are long, they have fulfilled my wish to learn about Ayurvedic cooking and healing as they have shared with me a most important book, their cookbook titled: Sukham Ayu, Cooking at Home with Ayurvedic Insights. Through the pages of this beautifully illustrated and simplified cookbook, I have learned that I am indeed a Pitta, how to prepare the irresistible flavors of Kheer, as well as the basis of our universe, Earth, Fire, Water, Air and of Ether, better known as "the container of all that is". Ayurvedic Insights offers a blessing of flavors and pure wisdom for all ages. I have learned through this amazing book that the wonders of Mother Nature's healing and flavors are the basis of life and the gifts given from the Gods above, fire, water, earth and air is what has given us our ether. In summary, I believe that this wonderful cookbook is a must have in all kitchens that value the offerings of nature. This book offers their of love of food, the land and for this planet that we call home! BY RANDI LEWIN, Colorado, USA |
