I found every track except one (13: Dstar's Mirror Image) to be incredibly repetitive-- starting with a simple riff or loop and then just getting stuck in it. And the riffs were pretty uninspired at that, hardly worth repeating ad-nauseum. The editor of this collection must really get off on bad trance. There's lots better out there...

"Sulphur Records was set up in 1999 to introduce innovative work by artists from all manner of disciplines"- a quote that can be found on one of the newest releases by Sulphur Records. The full 67-minute CD consists of 14 tracks by bands that only touch on the rounded-off term we call "electronica." Everything from abstract break beats to minimalist electronic-blip jazz to experimental looped-rhythms can be heard. A very diverse CD indeed.

Making up the compilation is SFT who does a calming electronic violin/piano tune, FUTURE PILOT A.K.A. vs. TWO LONE SWORDSMEN mix what sounds like a theme track for an old 80's mystery television show, a minimalist drum track with some plucking acoustic guitar overlapped by
SCANNER, and DSTAR brings up the back of the album with a break beat scratch fest with a rap by M.C. STAINLESS STEELE superimposed on the mix.

Although the extent of the album goes through many changes from track to track, it also has an enduring feel which carries from one to the next. A worthy mix for those days where all you want is some minimalism to enhance the calmness.
