5.0 out of 5 stars Sum & Substance Audio CDs are great, but the Con Law one is the best!
Listening to Audio CDs is not for everyone, but for those of us don't take the best notes and sometimes miss the info when it's mentioned in class the first time, these CDs are great. They are also good to listen to while playing computer games, relaxing, studying, or sleeping.

I've used a number of Sum & Substance Cds for reviewing my law courses. I put them on my iPod and listen to them at luch, when exercising , driving...everywhere. They can help before you even do your casebook reading, afterwards, after class, and of course during exam week. However, I have to disagree with some other reviewers about how great this set is. 5.0 out of 5 stars Sum & Substance Audio CDs are great, but the Con Law one is the best!, July 6, 2005
This review is from: Sum & Substance Audio on Constitutional Law (Audio CD)
Listening to Audio CDs is not for everyone, but for those of us don't take the best notes and sometimes miss the info when it's mentioned in class the first time, these CDs are great. They are also good to listen to while playing computer games, relaxing, studying, or sleeping.

I've owned and listened to the Civ Pro audio cds, property audio cds, contracts cds (A+ and a Cali in this course), and the con law (A- in this course) cds. I've also recently ordered crim law and evidence.

By far, the Mary Cheh Con Law Cds are the best. She hit on every case we covered in con law, the CDs are newer so she even hits on cases in the last few years. She has a wonderful speaking voice that made listening to the CDs not only more bearible than the others, but actually enjoyable.

While I was listening to the CDs over spring break, Professor Cheh popped up on the TV which was on behind me, TV stations were using her as an expert on Constitutional Law in the Terry Schaivo case.

I was highly impressed.

I almost wish she was the prof on all the CDs.

I highly recommend purchasing these CDs. They are well worth the price. It paid off nicely for me with an A-.

Miller's Civ Pro and Fintz's Torts are far better. You almost don't need to go to class with those two. This one is decent for review. Prof. Cheh, at times, does an excellent job analyzing some S.Ct. opinions, and generally does a decent job covering the usual material and explaining broad the issues, giving the opinions and dissents. My BIG problem with these CDs are the HUGE GAPS in her rate of speech. She does not talk slowly per se, but.................her........pauses.............................between words.............can sometimes,..............................................................be ridiculously long. ...............I couldn't concentrate..................... on them ..........................because these....................................gaps.......................................slowed the pace so much ................they became boring.............and frustrating. Fortunately I have sound editing software and went thru and deletd the long gaps (which cut the running time down a full 20%). After that they were fine to listen to and enjoy and learn from. I don't blame Ms. Cheh so much as the Sum & Substance publishers. For $70+ a set you'd think they could do a little editing, especially when people cough, clear their throat or misspeak then correct themselves. I'm no pro sound editor and it didn't take me all that long.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good overview, July 23, 2005
This review is from: Sum & Substance Audio on Constitutional Law (Audio CD)
You won't get an A just by listening to these CDs, but it will help you to gain a solid overview. I listened to these CDs and then read the corresponding chapters in Chemerinsky's book on Con Law. I still hated my Con Law class, but these two study aids were great. They helped me much more than a commerical outline did.

5.0 out of 5 stars February 21, 2007, February 21, 2007

This audiobook series is a great introduction to constitutional law. I find that Mary M. Cheh discusses cases we have learned in law school, and she makes the material interesting. The audio format makes it extremely convienent to learn while driving or doing other tasks. My only objection is that the information is in cd format; I would prefer the material to be downloadable in a form that resembles a podcast. But, I am sure I'm going to have to try a few more subjects in the series!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great lecture series, November 5, 2006

Outstanding lecture series that is really helpful in sketching out an overview of Con. Law and bringing together the sometimes broad theoretical concepts of a Con. Law course

I loved these lessons, Mary Chen is very good and helped me understand a complete semester of Con Law in just 10 hours of lectures. I owe this audiobook the B I got in the class, if it wasn't for it I may have failed the class. Thanks Ms. Chen!!!!!

Professor Cheh's discourse on our most revered constitution is truly superb. She describes nebulous concepts such as judicial review better than - well, me! Put this set of compact disks in after dinner, relax by the fireplace, and I guarantee that no one in your family will file a dissenting opinion.

4.0 out of 5 stars I will be trying more sum and substance reviews, November 29, 2010
This review is from: Sum & Substance Audio on Constitutional Law (Audio CD)
I am a law student who was lost in con law class, with a professor who mumbles and a poorly edited casebook. I have maxed out on Con law supplements to compensate, and this is BY FAR the best supplement I have found. Cheh has a great speaking voice and gives very concise points about the law that are easy to remember. If you are an auditory learner like me, this supplement is the way to go. It feels like she's mapping out the law in your head when you listen to her.

This is an excellent product for the study of constitutional law. My only regret is that I didn't purchase it prior to my mid-term exam.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the money. Helped better than Any Book out there, March 31, 2008
This review is from: Sum & Substance Audio on Constitutional Law (Audio CD)
I wasn't too happy spending so much to purchase the cd even after reading the rave reviews on here but I have to say these cd's are wonderful. Very indepth & Detailed. The professor on here has a good voice. She's clear with points and gives great examples illustrated by cases usually in the casebook your reading. She does talk quickly but gives so much info in each segment it's ok.
