I have no idea the summaries of monthly talk can be turned into an ebook. Since I have already read every one of them in email over the years, I have no plan to purchase this again.

In case you have not heard of SALT, it is a monthly series open to the public hosting many of the best thinkers to expound on a wide range of topics with great consequences. Topics include science and discoveries, culture and anthropology, or new theories on politics and economics. Each one of the talk is thought provoking. After a day or two, Steward sent out an email summary to benefit those who did not attend. It maybe strange to say this, but the text is so poignant that it is almost as good as being there, except it only takes two minutes to read.

Now several years of seminar summaries are being bound into one ebook. In two to three hours, you can fast forward over all these great questions and great ideas in one shot. I imagine it will create so much stimulation as if you put the brain on steroid.

This is a useful collection of efficient & informed summaries of the provocative & evocative Seminars About Long-Term Thinking sponsored by the Long Now Foundation. They make it easy to surf the big (sometimes complex) ideas revealed in conversations with 119 big thinkers -- global heavy-lifters from many domains. The focus is on what's really changing, what's critical, and what it really means in the long term.

And these are the people you really want to be listening to: Edward O. Wilson, Jared diamond, Brian Eno, Nassim Taleb, Clay Shirkey, Craig Venter, Danny Hillis, Vernor Vinge, Neil Stephenson, Ray Kurzweil, Jimmy Wales, Brewster Kahle, Larry Lessig, Michael Pollan... In other words, all the usual suspects. What's different is the quality of the ideation and the clarity with which Stewart Brand has summarized each presentation. These are not TED Talks or Charlie Rose interviews where speakers are coached and edited for entertaining consumers. Most SALT seminars are about a critical issue, risk or opportunity that addresses either the future of our species or of our planet. Sometimes, inevitably, it's about both. So the centricity and importance of the ideas and awareness has been honored by Brand. I really appreciate the way he's kept these summaries honest and accessible for readers like me. Bottom line? The big picture and the long view provided in the fewest words and least distortion possible.
