Review of A Summary of Christian Doctrine, August 28, 2008
This review is from: A Summary of Christian Doctrine: A Popular Presentation of the Teachings of the Bible; New King James Edition (Paperback)
In a word, this book is the most informative on Christian Doctrine that I've ever read. I've been a Protestant since a young child, attending Sunday School and Church and hearing the stories of the Bible over and over again. But I still never knew more about my own religion until after reading this book.
I have a habit of annotating pages containing information I want to find quickly in every nonfiction book I read. As a rule, I might make a dozen notes or so on the inside title (or blank) page. In the front of this book I made forty-five--each concept as enlightening as another!
The book backs up every explanation of the facets of Doctrine by Biblical references to Chapter and Verse. (For Lutherans, the book also references the Book of Concord).
I recommend this work to every Christian. Also to every non-believer who wants to gain insight into the Christian religion. Next to the Bible itself this is the most helpful book I've ever read.

A Summary of Christian Doctrine: A Popular Presentation of the Teachings of the Bible; New King James Edition, July 20, 2010
This review is from: A Summary of Christian Doctrine: A Popular Presentation of the Teachings of the Bible; New King James Edition (Paperback)
This book provides an excellent and solid understanding of the Christian faith and the author gives ample proof from the Holy Scriptures of his points. The book is broken out easily enough to make each section a family devotion if desired. The author stresses the core at the foundation of Lutheran theology. That core is Christ (the Triune God) who is the Word made flesh- given for the life of the world. The section of faith and justification by faith is comforting.
Koehler stresses that it is the Triune God who gives the gift of saving faith in grace. Although many reject the truth, justification is from God and He declared the whole world to be justified in His sight. He alone is responsible for the conversion act. Justification in the believer is complete and perfect. Those who believe by the power of the Holy Spirit personally receive the complete forgiveness of sins.
Koehler is clear in noting the biblical text that if one desires faith, let him read the Holy Scripture and listen to the preaching of the true Word of God. God will work his salvific gift according to His will. It is God who works the divine gift of saving faith; not man. He also mentions that Christ is active in the life of the believer as He continually gives Himself in Word and Sacrament. In the Sacraments of Baptism and the Eucharist, believers are joined with Christ in his life, death, and resurrection and are also joined with saints of all time. By His strength, by His Word, and precious gifts- the believer will endure, remain faithful and penitent.
Christ preserves and sustains the believer in His divine gift of faith until the end; where the believer will join with the Triune God once and for all eternity. This is the book to own if you want a readable version of solid apostolic Christian doctrine. This book is suitable for every person who desires to learn the basics of accurate Christian doctrine.
If you're not Lutheran, buy this book. For anyone else, BUY this book! Thank you sellers for making this book available on Amazon.
