Praise for Who Likes Rain:

“Children who are not usually attracted to quiet picture books will find themselves first drawn in by the guessing game and then rewarded by the entire experience. Fine strokes of color softly define the shapes of characters and settings, visually expressing the many sensory images found in the verse. . . . Simple and engaging.” —Booklist, starred review

“A perfect read-aloud for preschoolers and simple enough for beginning readers. Soft, gentle illustrations in acrylics capture the child’s joy and make readers almost feel the pelting rain. A lovely choice for spring storytimes.” —School Library Journal

Warm sunny days are outdoor days; bike riding days, running days. Cold, wet, snowy days are indoor days; writing days, illustrating days. In Michigan, there are plenty of days for writing and illustrating. Just as well, I do have to make a living. And I can think of nothing better than writing and illustrating children's books. This magical book tells the story of a little girl experiencing a beautiful summer day from the moment she wakes up until the goes to sleep at night. I love the size of the book, the illustrations are wonderfully simple yet full of enough details to keep my 2 year old interested, and the story is told in gently rhyming verse. Reading this book is like experiencing a summer day as a child all over again-where the world was full of wonder and magic and things to witness and explore. I particularly like how the author includes some time outdoors in the evening-most children's books end when the sun goes down but this one continues on so the child can experience an owl, the moonlight, and shadows. I look forward to Yee's other books.

I love this book, and more importantly so does my 1.5-year-old son. He's been reaching for it on our little shelf by the chair at every nap and bed time. I figured it would be a little long for him, but no, he's very engaged from beginning to end. I don't know if he's old enough to follow the story line (well, it's not so much a story as a tag-along through the girl's day), but he seems to like the simple rhyming and nice illustrations. Love it.
