Format: Spiral-bound
I used this book with my 2 daughters this year and we all thought it was quite enjoyable. They each had a copy since it is 'consumable' and now at the school year's end they have a lovely journal of their work, complete with research, drawings, reports, and their own sea creature doodles, too. We finished it just today and feel a bit sad to have it come to an end. While it is a more unconventional approach to learning biology, this *non-science mom* found that it was much more interesting and attainable than some other programs we've tried in the past with our older students. There is an on-going story thread that begins each week that I chose to read aloud for fun, and then the week's independent assignments are related to the themes from that week's story. I found the story well-written and engaging. This method really did 'draw us in' and kept the topics varied and interesting. Centered around biology concepts and the ocean, there were many rabbit trails of information that my daughters visited, and came away from the year with quite an appreciation for all they learned in this course. Their research skills were greatly improved with this style of learning. We did supplement the week's topics with some videos, nature observation, and microscope work once a week. We thoroughly enjoyed it and look forward to the next course!
