4.0 out of 5 stars Summer of Fear, May 31, 2008
This review is from: Summer of Fear (DVD)
Summer of fear (1996) starring Gregory Harrison, Glynnis O'Connor, and Corin Nemec is a good made for TV thriller. It has quite a few corny moments but at times it really is creepy. I decided to watch this when I saw Corin Nemec was in it. I really enjoyed his performance as the mysterious drifter.

The Marshall's decided to take a vacation to a summer house that was left to them by a deceased aunt. They're carjacked on the way there and attacked by two men. A mysterious drifter, Simon, (Corin Nemec) saves them. The rest of the movie slowly builds as Mr. Marshall becomes increasingly paranoid and as Simon spends more time with the Marshall's.

This movie has a lifetime movie feel, especially the script. But in my opinion it is better. Just don't expect great acting from all of the actors or a lot of gore or violence. Recommended if you enjoy made-for-tv thrillers or are a fan of any of the actors.

3.0 out of 5 stars Shallow End, August 11, 2007

This review is from: Summer of Fear (DVD)
This movie is pretty good but not really great which is why I gave it 3 stars. As a psychologist I was interested in it because it explores a subject that hits pretty close to home, fear. Fear itself takes on a few forms in this film, a terrorized family, a teenager looking for a family, and what it takes to gain confidence and trust of others.
Most of the movie is what I call surface material, it doesn't really explore deeply the subject matter of molestation and revenge. Obviously it was made to entertain as a thriller but the subject matter warrants deeper storytelling.
