Emm is back, and better than ever!!,

This review is from: The Summer of High Hopes (MP3 Download)
I first got turned on to Emm by her major label debut "Public", and I thought it was the best album of the year. Next came "Science Fair", and it was even better - Emm stripped down and completely honest. I became a fan. Then came her "Asian Blue" album. Boy, was I disappointed. I think she went to LA and worked with some producer and in my opinion, that was a big mistake - maybe it was just the wrong guy. I stopped following her career for awhile, and then I saw this on Amazon, and thought I'd give it a shot. Emm is back - in a BIG WAY. This is like Public and Science Fair all rolled into one, beautiful melodies, great songwriting, and it's produced just right. Not over done, and not stripped down. It lets Emm's voice and her songs shine, and it was so good to hear her writing and recording like this again. If you like singer/songwriters with TALENT, get this album, it's amazing.

I bought this album for my wife but ended up liking it myself - which is unusual for person who generally likes Bob Seger, John Mellencamp and other heavy male voice artists. She has a beautiful voice but more importantly she writes consistently great songs. The whole album is highly listenable from start to finish. I had the chance to see her play locally just before Christmas and purchased her album "Science Fair" -- again for my wife -- and found again that I liked it as much as she did. Science Fair is also an album also filled with consistent high quality songs from start to finish. Emm Gryner is definiately a top talent and worthy of much more recognition than she has achieved to date -- which I'm sure she will get if she keeps working at it.
