Product Description

Borrowing a double decker bus for a mobile home, four young mechanics search for fun in the sun from London to Athens. Bachelor Boy Cliff Richard dons his dancing shoes and brings a beat to the beach in the breeziest Summer Holiday on record! Featuring the legendary title song, alongside 7 Days To A Holiday and Take You For A Ride, this DVD gives you the opportunity to sing along with Cliff.

This product is manufactured on demand using DVD-R recordable media. Amazon.com's standard return policy will apply.

From the Back Cover

Garage mechanic Don (Cliff Richard) persuades London Transport to loan him an old double-decker bus, which he and his mates transform into a hotel on wheels for a road trip across Europe. But when a beautiful runaway American pop star stows away on board, the boys are off on an international adventure of singing girl groups, chatty French mimes and even a Yugoslavian bullwhip wedding. It's a singing and dancing race against time as Cliff and company find friends, fun and maybe even love, all on a Summer Holiday!
Upon its release in 1963, Summer Holiday broke all British box office records and sealed Cliff Richard' reputation as England's best-loved entertainer. This delightful musical adventure also marked the film debut of director Peter Yates (Bullitt, Breaking Away), and features Cliff's classic hits "Summer Holiday," "Bachelor Boy," "Dancing Shoes" and "The Next Time," as well as the #1 instrumental smash "Toe Tapper" by his virtuoso backing band The Shadows.

Most Cliff Richard fans--and I'm one of them--consider "Summer Holiday" to be his best musical. When he appears after the opening credits, black and white turns to colour, and this fun movie gets rolling--actually "rolling" on the wheels of a bright red, double-decker London bus that Cliff and his pals take to France, across Europe and ultimately Greece.
There are many reasons why this movie works so well. There is a great cast of young, supporting players who match Cliff's enthusiasm, and Lauri Peters is a lovely leading lady. The dance numbers are expertly done--Cliff may not be Gene Kelly ( who is ? ) but he acquits himself very well, and watch out for one of his mates played by Teddy Green, a real pro. Comic sequences are very amusing. On-location European scenery is a big plus--Cliff singing "The Next Time" with the Acropolis behind him leaves a lasting impression.
The soundtrack quite simply is Cliff's best. "Summer Holiday", "Bachelor Boy", "Dancing Shoes", great production numbers and three excellent instrumentals by the legendary Shadows add up to super entertainment.
Finally, let's give full credit to the star--Sir Cliff was about 22 when this was filmed--he looks great, sounds great and has charm and charisma to spare. No movie will give you a better idea as to why he has had such a long career, and remains enormously popular all over the globe.
Oh yes--the DVD--the widescreen picture is gorgeous. This film is almost 40 years old, and yet the colours are beautiful and details clear. Thank you, Anchor Bay, for a superb job.

There won't be another movie like this! One of Cliff's best, the fun and action from start to finish is hillarious!

The songs are a class apart and each number is worth treasuring for a lifetime.

Over all, an excellent movie classic worth storing.

Better than Bye Bye Birdie, this movie has lots of charm and pizzazz. The dancing is superb and the music fits perfectly with the plot line. This is the kind of movie I feel comfortable watching with children of all ages. It is a summer fun movie that is sure to put a smile on the faces of even the most dour watcher. A must see for musical lovers.

As a boy growing up in Guyana formerly British Guiana I was introduced to the world of music via the BBC. Of course Cliff Richard was King to us in the British world. The second movie I ever saw was Summer Holiday, in Georgetown. It set the tone for the great passion I have for Film and Film History. The performances were absolutely natural and seemed so very real that I took the trip across Europe right along with the gang. A simple and fun story cemented with great songs. I highly recommend this for new fans to discover.
