5.0 out of 5 stars WONDERFUL
I have been a fan of Jean Stone's from the first. Her books are always wonderful and never a disappointment. She has done it again with the Summer House. The storyline very believable. The plot twist terrific. A page turner from the first. If you have not read her books before after this one you will want to read them all.

2.0 out of 5 stars Just an OK book
After reading "Places By The Sea" I was very disappoined in this book. It's an easy read, but was too prdictable. Also I felt it was loosely based on the Kennedy's life. It is not one I will keep to re-read as I have with "Places By The Sea". However I will try more books by Jean Stone.

The Summer House is an intriguing story, filled with surprising twists and turns, which keeps the reader on-edge until the end! This is not a mush and gush romantic tale - but one of love and lost love. The heroine, Liz Adams, sacrifices herself for her father's wishes, dreams, and commands. Liz lives her life based on the decisions her father makes for her, as well as for her three other siblings. All of their lives become intertwined when Liz's husband, Michael, runs for the Presidency and even more so, when their patriarch dies and Liz is left to confront the façade and charade she has lived, and the love that she yearned for and could not have.

This tale had many characters, and all were equally interesting but not to the point of confusion - a nice mix and balance.

This story kept me guessing and I would really love to see a sequel to this book!! Too many unanswered questions and too many open-ended issues left in the book!

This is my first book by Jean Stone and I would enthusiastically recommended this book to other readers. I am now in search of her other books to absorb!

I had never read a book by Jean Stone before and was surprized with the plot. The book is a quick read and keeps your attention. If you read books as a way to relax this is a perfect book for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Marvelously Written!, September 25, 2000
This review is from: The Summer House (Mass Market Paperback)
This was my first novel by Jean Stone, but it won't be my last! This novel is rich with multi-dimensional characters, each with their own motivations and greeds, and a storyline readers won't be able to forget. Marvelous!

This is the first Jean Stone book I have read, and I was captivated by her writing, it draws you in and by the end of the book you feel like you know the family. Is romantic, funny, sad, and heart warming all in one. It took me back to my childhood memories and thoughts of first love. I would recommend this book to anyone who is in the mood for a great read. I can't wait to read more of her books.

This is the first time I've read Jean Stone. I was drawn to the book because it is set in Martha's Vineyard, where I've vacationed at my brother's home. This book grabbed me right from the beginning, and held me captive until the end. I loved the ironic twists of the characters that shaped the main character's youth and how they came together into her adult years. I kept wanting to pick it up and read when I should have been doing other things!

1.0 out of 5 stars BLAH!, September 16, 2005

This book could not have been more boring and predictable! The entire plot line has been used over and over again and this is just a sorry attempt at love lost and found again. The basic outline of the story was ridiculous, not at al believable...the two loves of Liz's life, her husband who is running for president...and his opponent, her first love. It definitely has a Kennedy-like feel with a bloodline of tragedy. I could only get about half way though, then decided it wasn't worth finishing. Every character was too extreme and cliché in their personality, it just wasn't believable...Jean Stone books may be finished for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars GOOD FAST READ-FIRST TIME FOR ME WITH THIS AUTHOR, November 26, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Summer House (Kindle Edition)
This is the first time for me with this author. Plan to readr more of her and as soon as I am done here I am purchasing a few more of her books. I like the story angle with the human side of a campaign which we are not familar with. The secrets, the domineering father who planned his children's life, along w/ some prejudice attitudes make this a good story. Yes, it was predicable but in the end we all like and need happy endings.
