4.0 out of 5 stars Good Product
I use this changing pad every day with my newborn son. I did not buy a cover to go with it and I don't think one is necessary. The material is waterproof and my son has already put it to the test several times, it wipes completely clean and we usually just put a cloth diaper down for his head and leave the rest of it open. If you buy a cover for it, be prepared to...

Product specifications say that it is made from PEVA, which is supposed to be safer than vinyl. However, specs do not say that the filling is 93% polyurethane foam. The whole reason I ordered this one was to get away from polyurethane foam, so I will be returning it. Stick with the Munchkin brand or whatever you can find at Target, which is only 67% polyurethane foam,(or...

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Product, June 1, 2010

I use this changing pad every day with my newborn son. I did not buy a cover to go with it and I don't think one is necessary. The material is waterproof and my son has already put it to the test several times, it wipes completely clean and we usually just put a cloth diaper down for his head and leave the rest of it open. If you buy a cover for it, be prepared to change it constantly (at least if you have a little boy) because it will likely get peed on on a daily basis! I believe the pad says that it has a slip proof bottom, however I have not found this to be entirely the case. I find that I can slide it myself at times when I am trying to shift my son's position - although he has not been strong enough to move it himself and we do have it attached to the wall behind the dresser as well. The pad is a good size and seems like it will be long enough for him for quite some time. Overall I definitely recommend this pad for anyone that doesn't want to spend the money for a changing table - ours works perfectly fine on top of a dresser.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice Thicker Changing Pad, November 8, 2009

My daughter just adopted two little boys 1 & 2 so back to diapers again. This time we purchased a dresser and placed the changing pad (which comes with anchoring straps) on the top and it works just great for both boys & saves Mommy's back. The pad is quite thick which is unlike many pads on the market which give little support during the changes. These are husky little guys & the pad is both long enough & supportive enough to be comfortable for the toddlers and to do the job well. A wise purchase indeed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Everything a changing pad is suppose to be, September 8, 2009

After my husband nearly dropped our baby changing him directly on a dresser, I decided a contour changing pad would ease my mind. Just the curve seems to hold our wiggly, active 5 month old in place. We don't use the strap and recently cut them off since they were catching on the drawers of the dresser. I do use a changing sheet/pad on to of the pad for ease of cleaning. The price and size of this pad was ideal. Try it out.

The whole reason I ordered this one was to get away from polyurethane foam, so I will be returning it. Stick with the Munchkin brand or whatever you can find at Target, which is only 67% polyurethane foam,(or organic if you can afford it I guess). Also, the sides on the Summer Infant brand are not very deep. The Munchkin brand has higher sides, which may help prevent baby from rolling. Only advantage of Summer Infant is that the entire bottom of the pad is covered with non-slip material, as opposed to only a few strips of non-slip material. But the Munchkin one does provide some nails as well which you can hammer into a dresser or whatever you are going to put this on.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Changing Pad, August 12, 2009
This review is from: Summer Infant Contoured Changing Pad (Baby Product)
This changing pad is nearly perfect. It is thick for the baby's comfort and large enough to accommodate a 1 year-old. The bottom surface really sticks to the dresser top so I don't have to worry about the pad sliding around. The only drawback is the little indentations left by the quilting are difficult to clean if the baby has had a bowel movement on the pad itself. Not a frequent occurrence, but I do like a super-clean changing pad. This isn't an issue if you use a changing pad cover, which I do not. All in all, this pad is exactly what I was looking for.

5.0 out of 5 stars No PVC!, July 22, 2011

At least at the time I bought it a year ago, this changing pad was the only one I could find (except the $$$$ Naturepedic) with a non-PVC cover.

The packaging says:
"Cover Top: 90% polyethylene/10% EVA
Cover Bottom: 100% polypropylene
Pad/Filler: 93% polyurethane foam/7% polyester fiber"

Of course, that polyurethane foam probably has toxic flame retardants in it . . . but at least they're enclosed within the plastic cover. I was really glad to find a slightly healthier, non-PVC pad. It has held up well over the past year and I have no complaints.

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible!, July 14, 2011

This changing pad is horrible! I had it less than two weeks and it is completely torn up and it hasn't been used for anything other than changing our baby. I wish I had kept my old changing pad because there was nothing essentially wrong with it other than it being a couple years old. I wanted a fresh one for our new baby. The covering on this is so thin that it tears at the slightest pull. So disappointed. What a waste of money!

2.0 out of 5 stars Cheap but you get what you paid for, January 20, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Summer Infant Contoured Changing Pad (Baby Product)
We bought this particular changing pad to replace a Simmons Kids Contour Dressing Table Pad with Non-Skid Bottom one we had been using for three months. I chose this changing pad over the Simmons pad this time because it was cheaper. However, I just received this item two days ago, and on the first day it got a hole in it from my wedding ring. Only last week did the Simmons one develop a hole, and I was wearing my wedding ring the entire time we used it. The plastic on the Summer Infant changing pad seems to be thinner and more fragile than the Simmons changing pad. My son likes to kick, and even his toenails have cut into the plastic on the changing pad which did not occur on the Simmons changing pad. If you do get this changing pad, I recommend using a cover to prevent tears since it is so fragile. I keep my own fingernails short, and even once just my short fingernail poked a small hole. It's a bit exasperating the amount of holes this changing pad has managed to accumulate in just two days. I have emailed Summer Infant's customer service department, and I will update this review based on how they handle my email.

this changing pad is a great size, and it fits perfectly on top of one of our chest of drawers - no need to buy an expensive free-standing changing station! it's very comfortable for baby, the contour and the belt keep baby snuggled safely, and the non-slip bottom keeps it from sliding too much.. highly recommended for any nursery!

1.0 out of 5 stars Started to fall apart within the first couple of days, August 5, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Summer Infant Contoured Changing Pad (Baby Product)
The changing pad tore at a seam within the first couple of days having it. I figured that it was a fluke and that it would probably be fine despite the tear, but then it started to tear ALL over the changing pad (not at the point that was already torn mind you, all over the pad on opposite sides and in new places). We had our prior changing pad by a different manufacturer for *3 years* before we decided to replace it. It's been about 2.5 months with this changing pad and it's completely ripped to shreds and unusable - it looks like a cat has been sneaking into the kids room and using it as a scratching post! We're very unhappy with the product and we probably won't order a Summer Infant item again.
