5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to install and use
It only took me about 20 minutes to install this double bed rail by myself. Basically, you just snap on the pieces to create the two rails, insert each rail into two plastic hinges, connect the two rails through two straps, take off the mattress, place the rails on the box spring, put back the mattress, and tighten the rails to the mattress by tightening the two straps...

It only took me about 20 minutes to install this double bed rail by myself. Basically, you just snap on the pieces to create the two rails, insert each rail into two plastic hinges, connect the two rails through two straps, take off the mattress, place the rails on the box spring, put back the mattress, and tighten the rails to the mattress by tightening the two straps. With one person, after assembling the two rails, the only challenging part was placing the mattress back on the box spring without displacing the bed rails on the box spring. I overcame this challenge by placing the mattress back on the box spring and then re-adjusting the slightly displaced rails. Doing it alone probably took an extra 5 minutes. The instructions were easy to follow and there were few parts to make the assembly nearly fool-proof.

I also like that both rails can be lowered for changing bed sheets or when they are not needed. Please note that it does take a bit of room for the rails to fold down completely so check the rail height to determine the space needed. Once the rails are tightened, it can be difficult to pull a comforter between the rail and the bed. So, I just fold the comforter on both sides rather than let it drape.

This review is from: Summer Infant Sure and Secure Double Bedrail, Blue (Baby Product)
Last 3 years, I had two of these products, one three year ago and one recently. I liked the design, color, easy set up. It WAS right hight and tallness for a toddler. And dark blue color was perfect match for my son's room. My younger son is transitioning from crip to bed, so I needed another pair. I ordered same product from amazon, which arrived fast. However the product has changed, and different than picture here. First, the color is no longer dark blue as in the photo, it is very light blue. Second, the design addedd a zipper to secure the fabric, which is very low quality and I am not sure how long it will stand to the task. Third, the rails are shorter now versus the prior versions. And there is some changes on fastening system as well. On top, quality of the fabric is down, now it feels very plasticy and thin. All in all, the product quality is down, but the price is up more than 30% versus what I paid last time.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good Idea, bad parts, March 17, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I purchased these bed rails in November, and in 3 months use it already broke! With normal use (no falls on it or other stresses). The part that broke is the PLASTIC buckle/latch mechanism that holds the strap that tightens the 2 sides of the bed rail together. I have no idea how it broke, I just noticed it one day as I changed the bedsheets and lifted up the mattress - and found the bed rail loose. To start with, a critical part to making the bed rail useful should not have been made with breakable plastic!

At least customer service is honoring the 1 year warranty (by the way, Summer Infant customer service never responded to my email and took 2 calls - one rolling to voicemail - before I was able to reach someone to talk with). But to get the replacement rails I had to send in the old rails BEFORE they sent out a replacement! The whole process takes over 2 weeks before I'll have another set of bed rails - what am I supposed to do to protect my kid in the meantime! I can understand their possible concern of fraud - but that can be easily handled with keeping some credit card info - it's ridiculous that they would require a return of a baby product that most parents would need everyday before sending out a warranty replacement.

The only upside is these are easy to use rails while they worked.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best buy for your money!, July 29, 2009

We originally bought this bed rail set for our first son in 2005 when he moved to a Captain's bed. It is great b/c it will fit on any bed style. We even take ours and lay it flat in our trunk and travel with it. We bought our 2nd set for our younger son and I have no hesitation about recommending this product to anyone. It's easy to assemble and very secure. I like the ease of moving the bed rail up and down to make a bed, etc. Also, it is adjustable to different beds so if you travel to someone's house or on vacation, you can adjust it to the new bed. Love this bedrail! Oh and the best part...you get 2!!!!! in the package...not just 1 like many others.

This product took me about 15 minutes to assemble. The package says it should take five; I am certain that it would have only taken five if I wasn't taking care of my toddler at the same time. It was very easy to assemble. I hardly even had to use the instructions (which were very good by the way.) I installed it alone. My toddler sleeps on a twin mattress that is on top of plywood on a regular metal bed-frame. I saw no need for a box spring mattress and she can get into bed without needing a stool. That being said, it is difficult to find railing that works with this type of set up. I had a Dex rail for one side, but it was really designed for a mattress/box spring setup and was really difficult to tighten. I thought about buying another one for the other side of her bed; however, I saw a rail that was around $40 that would hide underneath the bed. They said it was super-strong and it was super-long. This was their big selling point. I'm sure it was a great rail. You could also buy the second rail for $20-30. But, it did not hide away or move at all, which to me, defeats the purpose of buying a hide-a-way bed rail. I was scared to purchase the Summer bed rails because they were cheaper and when it comes to things like this, you usually get what you pay for. However, I read that they both folded down (which is a must-have so you can make the bed!) And, since they are made to work together, I knew it would be stronger. I decided to give it a try. THEY WERE SOOOOOO EASY TO TIGHTEN! You just pull a strap until you can't get it any tighter, and then you lock it in place with the simple push of a lever. They are very easy to get down and up when needed. They are tall enough for my extra-tall mattress and they are plenty long enough. I think I have about 15 inches at the foot and head of the bed that is not covered. They look great and seem plenty strong enough.

Now we will just have to see how they hold up over time. But, I already think they are super compared to the Dex I had.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good product until plastic clips broke., July 1, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Summer Infant Sure and Secure Double Bedrail, Blue (Baby Product)
This product worked great on a queen bed we had for our 2 year old daughter. (The bed was an extra one from our parents.) Thus, my daughter had a lot of room to roll, and these side rails worked great. However, we bought the rails in November 2009 and in May 2010 the two plastic clips that hold the rails tight under the mattress broke! And we only found out when my daughter pushed against the rail and fell out of the bed!

So overall, they worked well, until the clips broke. Maybe these rails are not good for a queen bed - that would be my concern.

I bought these rails based on the positive reviews relative to other guard rails, but now I wonder if there are any good double rails out there! These seemed nice, if a bit cumbersome to assemble, and they look good. They stayed snuggly in place after initial assembly, and we felt confident that they were safe and still fairly comfortable. However, the clips that hold the connecting straps are cheap plastic and have already snapped. Our son is not particularly hard on furniture, and we generally just leave the rails up, so it would be hard to argue that there was excessive wear on the in just the last 6 months. (If you do buy them, beware that the straps do get stressed a bit when putting the rails up and down a lot just from the shift in weight, so the problem we are having could be exacerbated.) Looking at other options, these still have a lot of appeal, but the quality needs improvement. I am still searching for good, safe bed rails!

2.0 out of 5 stars Bedrail, April 5, 2009
This review is from: Summer Infant Sure and Secure Double Bedrail, Blue (Baby Product)
The bed rails were easy to assemble and install, but when you want to lower the sides to make the bed they don't fully stow flush with the side of the bed. As a result, they extend out somewhat, making it harder to make the bed. It would also be nice if they were flush with the side of the bed so you could leave them down until your child is ready to go to bed at night. Other than that, they are very useful.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poorly made - strap tightener broken after first assembly, August 5, 2011

This review is from: Summer Infant Sure and Secure Double Bedrail, Blue (Baby Product)
We got this as a gift several months ago and I just put it together to introduce to my 2 yr old son. I put it together fairly easily and noticed that one of the straps wouldn't stay tightened. When I looked closer I saw that the plastic had broken! I checked the other side which was staying tight, and saw that that one had a crack so it will soon be useless as well. I didn't pull excessively hard to tighten them. Really poor quality for it to break on assembly!
I haven't reached customer service yet by phone because I called on a Friday and they closed early.

We had a trundle bed and needed to find rails that would fit. These were perfect with the adjustable straps that slid under the mattress. These were the most reasonable priced that we found that would work with our bed.
