3.0 out of 5 stars Better than Bumbo, June 19, 2010
This review is from: Summer Infant 3 Stage Super Seat (Baby Product)
I have this seat and the bumbo. Here's my observation of my 3 1/2 month son in each:

BUMBO
+ Made of sturdy polyeurophane (sp?) lightweight
- No attached toys (might be a good thing if you are picky able what goes in the mouth)
- Child often drops toys on floor even when there's a tray attached causing frustration
- Leg opening really tight on chubbier legs

SUMMER INFANTACTIVITY SEAT
+ Attached toys give child something to look at, grab and mouth
+ Don't need to keep picking up toys off the floor
+ Can attach other toys to prexisting ones
+ All the perks or an exersauer without taking up a lot of room
- Made of cheap platic
- Paint comes off toys over time (it's made in the USA so no lead, but still)

I think the bumbo is popular because it's industructable and serves its purpose well (helps non-sitters sit), but if your child is like mine he/she will get really frustrated that he/she is stuck in this chair with nothing to do (except try to escape to retreave his dropped toys). Even though the Summer Infant seat is cheaply made, your child will most likely enjoy sitting in it (at least long enough for you to take a shower).

5.0 out of 5 stars Even if your baby can't sit up yet..., September 27, 2010

I bought this for my son just shy of his 3rd month. He could hold up his head up very well, but couldn't sit up at all. This was perfect for him. The seat is close fitting offering support throughout the leg and hip area. The sides come up high around the baby, which also offered support to prevent leaning over. The base is sturdy and I have had no problems with tipping over or anything.

It comes with a formed foam insert for use when the baby is smaller and needs a little extra support. I didn't need to use this because mine was big enough body-wise to fill out the seat by itself. It also comes with a tray that is a complete circle around the seat, which serves three purposes. It locks the child in (along with the seat belt), it has two cup holders with a space to lay snacks, and it comes with four toys that attach securely to it. My son is VERY strong for his age and has not managed to pull any of them off.

I also had room on the tray to add a couple of those spinning suction toys.

When not needed, the tray can be removed completely and you can just buckle the baby in.

5.0 out of 5 stars Greatest Purchase!, March 3, 2010
By
This review is from: Summer Infant 3 Stage Super Seat (Baby Product)
We have been using this seat since my daughter can sit (around 6 mos.) She is now 2 and she still loves it. We use it every day to let her play and eat in it.
It is the best purchase we have made!
The only drawback is that the sliding tray has a little gap which little fingers can get slip in and get stuck. Also, you have to make sure that the child has his or her hands up before sliding in the tray. Otherwise, we just love this seat!

5.0 out of 5 stars SO much better than the Bumbo, April 27, 2010

We have twins and they both love this! It was recommended by a child physical therapist. You get the same seat as a Bumbo but added advantages of the toys and using it as a booster seat. Also, no tight leg holes as some people complain of with the Bumbo. We have seem dramatic improvement in our babies sitting and the toys motivate them to stay upright. We're buying a second one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent - Helped 3 month old develop sitting/core muscles, December 16, 2010
This review is from: Summer Infant 3 Stage Super Seat (Baby Product)
I purchased this seat for my son when he was almost 3 months old. I chose it over the bumbo as I liked the idea of the tray with the attached toys, and I considered it to have a very secure base. He already had extremely strong neck muscles (he held up his head briefly the night he was born), and had some strength around sitting up, but without support, always slipped, so I thought a seat would work well for him. The seat has a large stable base, provides a lot of support on the sides, and the inner foam insert orange seat provides a lot of additional support when the baby is quite young. We used this for a full month (his third month) before we relocated and couldn't take it with us. In that month, however, my son very quickly started developing his core/sitting muscles and by his fourth month he could sit up fairly well (but not completely unassisted, that took another month). After a gap, we used this same seat when he was 9 months old and 22 lbs: He still fit in the seat with the foam insert, and I used it as a makeshift feeding seat (worked, but the toys got a lot of food on them).

The tray: Rotates, with four securely attached toys. Has a section for two little removeable cups that presumably would hold small snacks, etc. We were pre-snack food age when we used this seat, so they were never used. There's a lock at the back of the seat that would prevent the tray section from rotating, if necessary. Tray takes a bit of practice to slide on, but isn't very tricky once you've practiced it a few times. There's a little slide-out section that provides for the baby to be placed in and taken out -- you have to be a little bit careful not to pinch the baby's fingers, but just like when you place the tray on your highchair, it's no big deal.

The toys: A spinning ladybug mirror (very liked), a spinning bee with two little balls inside for visual and auditory stimulation (very very liked), a butterfly that can be pulled toward the baby for chewing on and a bee with a couple of rings to be played with. These spinning toys are the standard against which all spinning toys are judged by my son: He really likes them. Now that he is almost one year old, I wish I could install them elsewhere for him to continue to play with them. I saw him really develop his spinning skills/finger dexterity. He became an expert at spinning either the ladybug mirror or the bee spinner and we'd always laugh to see him flick his thumb to ever so efficiently spin the little bee. (He's better than I am, let's say.) Now at almost a year, he still stops by this seat while in the midst of running around in order to play briefly with the toys (fond memories). The toys seat very securely and have never been removed by my son. We used Fisher Price Linkaroos to attach to the butterfly wings to attach a few other toys, and when he was smaller to allow him to pull on the Linkaroos to pull the butterfly closer to him.

Booster seat: The seat also has the belts for converting it to a booster seat taped-in underneath, for later convenience, I assume. However, we don't have a chair with a large enough seating area to use it as a booster seat -- the seating area is supposed to be at least as large as the base of the seat. We're not going to use the booster seat aspect of this product.

Overall, we were extremely pleased with our purchase. I feel it was the best baby seating choice we could have made.

5.0 out of 5 stars Purchased for 4 month old grandson - love it!, February 9, 2010

We purchased the Super Seat for our grandson when he was four months old and not yet able to sit on his own. He loves sitting in his little chair. Provides him with independence and a whole different view of everything. He loves playing with the toys, chewing on them and spinning them. The removable portion of the tray slides on and off easily, to set him in or lift him out. Now at six months, he continues to use his Super Seat daily. We are very pleased with this purchase!

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than Bumbo, October 21, 2009

This seat is so multi-functional. We use it instead of a high chair (we put the straps around a chair we have at home) and feed our daughter in it. When we first got it (~5mo), our daughter loved to sit and play in it. She loved to chew on the toys and toss around the cups! Now that she's older (8 mo), we use it at feedings and to keep her occupied for a little bit when we are doing something around the house.

The tray slides in and out easily to get the baby out.

We were visiting friends who have a Bumbo...it just looked uncomfortable (her thighs barely seemed to fit and she was just 6mo old!) and it was MUCH harder to get her in and out of it and I HATED the plastic Bumbo tray that supposedly snapped in place...it was so hard to use and caught her hands once, making her cry. \

This seat is cheaper and more importantly, WAY more functional!

I love that it grows with my baby and plan to use it for a while...

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved in our house!, August 23, 2010
This review is from: Summer Infant 3 Stage Super Seat (Baby Product)
We bought this when our now 2 year old was about 4 mos old. We had gone to the store for the bumbo but thought this looked like a better option. It absolutely was. Even now she still sits in it, although the toys don't keep her attention anymore, she still likes to have her afternoon snack in there. She would sit in there long enough for me to shower or cook dinner, which is really all I could ask for =) There was about a month or so, when she wouldn't eat in her high chair and only in there. Baby #2 just turned 3 months old and hopefully will enjoy this as much as her sister did!

I'm surprised to read someone's paint peeled, we have not had that problem. Also, one of the toys has a loop on it where I could attach other toys when she did get bored.

This review is from: Summer Infant 3 Stage Super Seat (Baby Product)
I purchased this seat for my daughter around 4 months old because she was showing signs that she wanted to be seated upright, but lacked the strength to do so on her own. I was considering the Bumbo when I stumbled across this seat. I liked the idea of the tray and later use as a booster seat. Once I received it, I found it very easy to put together. The tray slides nicely and my (rather large) baby fit in it perfectly. The reason for the 4 stars however, is that I noticed the underside of the tray has some ridges on it that I felt could scratch my baby's toes if she were to get excited and kick hard. I solved this by simply putting socks on her feet and never had a problem. Also, it was a bit difficult to carry this seat one-handed with the tray attached while holding my baby in my other arm. If I tried to pick it up by the tray, it would fall off and grabbing the orange part does not work either because that part is removable. So I had to try to slide my fingers under the green part, which was heavy and awkward to carry in that manner. I do feel that this seat may have helped her with sitting as she was sitting almost unassisted by 5 months. All in all a good product, easy to keep clean. I would recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super Indeed!, July 30, 2010
This review is from: Summer Infant 3 Stage Super Seat (Baby Product)
I started researching the Super Seat because my son could not sit in the Bumbo. In it he would slouch which put too much pressure on his tummy and he would spit up. Then by 5 months his legs were too chubby. He sits up much straighter in the Super Seat and there is more room in the seat, even with the insert. The toys are simple but he still enjoys them. He has short arms so the toys are out of his reach on a lot of other toys. He can reach them in the Super Seat. I also like that it is more versatile and can be used longer. From the product specifications, I was afraid that this seat would be large, but it is not. The width given is with the tray in place. We also love it for travel. It's two things in one: a booster and for sit-and-play.
