I purchased two of these at the recommendation of a friend, almost 3 years ago for my 1st child and now use them for my second child too. This is wonderful when they started eating finger foods and we would go out for dinner. I didn't have to worry about her (like all kids, licking, biting or as kids always end up doing) eating food off the dirty table tops! The suction cups are strong enough to hold it in place, during a lot of rigerous pulling and tugging which was awesome because my youngest is always trying to yank it off. So far she hasn't had much success and she's a strong little one!

We just attach it to the table, sit her in the high chair and she can feed herself finger foods and I don't have to stress out trying to keep her clean! When she's done eating, I just roll it up, (it's designed to fold into itself and stay that way, until we get home. I wash it, roll it up and it goes back in the diaper bag for the next time. This is also great, because she's always done eating before us, you can roll it up leaving a clean "play" area on the table. I would definitly recommend them!!!

When attaching to the table tops, make sure you dampen the suction cups with a little moisture from the outside of your drink glass and it will stay in place even better!

Buy this! You won't regret it!

We used this with our first daughter, and now we use it with the second. It's very durable. We've had it for two years and still no tears, rips, cracks, etc. I normally wash it in the sink, but occasionally, I throw it in the washer. We love this mat because it keeps her from eating off of a nasty table while we're out it public.

So, why only three stars? The bad part is that the suction cups normally don't work well. It really all depends on the finish of the table. However, most every meal, I have to fight with her (just like I did with my first daughter), so that she won't rip it off. She's 15-months old, and it really is no big deal for her to rip it off the table. If we're not watching, the food will go flying (along with the mat). But it's better if this mat goes flying as opposed to a dish shattering on the floor.

It definitely isn't a sit at the table and forget about it proposition at all. So if that's what you're looking for, this product isn't for you. But if you just want a clean place to put their food while they eat, and you don't mind having to keep one hand close, it does the job.

I had one of these with my first child a couple years ago and it was fantastic. The rubber was thick and the suction cups worked well. I routinely washed it in the washing machine with towels to get it really clean-- that worked much better than trying to hand wash.
I bought a new one for my daughter last week because I really wanted something pink. After taking it out of the box I noticed how much thinner and flimsy it is compared to the one I had (same brand, even had the same nursery rhyme on it). The suction cups didn't work well, and after washing it in the machine one time it has several large tears in it.

I realize machine washing is not the recommended way to clean it, but it worked so well in the past that I assumed it would be okay. I think that the fact that it tore on it's first wash shows how much the quality of this product has deteriorated over the last couple of years. I'm disappointed.

This place-mat is good in theory. In fact, it does a great job protecting my son from icky table germs when he is eating finger foods. Unfortunately, like most toddlers he seeks out challenges, and is able rip the entire mat of the table within seconds now. He thinks it's a game and laughs every time. With that said, at least it does a good job at staying put. Don't think anything without a suction cup would work at all for us. Another downside is that this mat is a little on the bulky side. Definitely not something you can just keep in your diaper bag. I keep mine stashed in my car for when we eat out. Not a perfect product, but glad I have it!

I thought I would love this product based on the reviews I read and the need I had for a product like this! But it was a waste of money for me. I have twins and I always try a product out before I commit to buying a 2nd one...I will not be buying a 2nd one! I have Inglesina Hook on high chairs and figured the fact that many reviewers had problems with the suction cups wouldn't pertain to us because the hook on high chairs have arms that would hold it down. The suction cups did not stick to my table and I tried wetting them down like you do if a suction cup won't stick, it didn't help. When I put the hook on high chair arms over the placemat, I couldn't find a good place to clamp the arms down as the suction cups were in the way and it made me a little nervous that the arms weren't clamped down as tight as they should be. The suction cups make the place mat stick up rather than laying flat on the table. The top edge, since it wasn't being held down by the suction cups, curled up and it looked tacky. It ended up being kind of awkward and just wasn't a good fit.

I also didn't care for the catch tray. That was my main reason for buying it, I was tired of the finger foods going to the dogs and thought the catch tray would solve this problem. Since the whole thing is made of rubber, the tray wasn't very sturdy and that made it easy to spill. It also didn't fit well between the table's edge and the hook on high chair. I think if it was a more sturdy material, laid flat with suction cups that really worked, and not this rubbery type material, it could be an even better product. It also would be nice if it was made with hook on high chairs in mind so that their aren't suction cups in the place where the arms would be and room for the catch rtray. Wish I had saved my money, as I have no use for it.

The only plus, it does wipe down very easy!

I don't normally write reviews, but as I was washing this out today I decided that I really should; this thing is awesome, and I didn't know when I bought it if it would be or not. I decided to get it because we were going on a 9-day trip, and I was dreading the idea of sanitizing the table and my daughter, and trying to catch catch falling food and clean up the general mess after every meal and snack for 9 days. (Also, I'm on a very limited budget, and didn't know if it would be worth $11.)

I'm so glad I did! Not only is the concept a great one, but it works just the way you'd want it to. The suction cups keep the thing there until you really rip it off, it's thick enough that if the kiddo bites the table, it won't hurt anything, and the tray that hangs over her lap is the perfect size and shape. When I see food in it, I just flop the tray up and the food is effortlessly (and mess-less-ly!) transfered to the table in front of her! An unexpected plus for me is that it actually stays rolled up, so you don't get bits of dinner running loose in your diaper bag.

Because of its size (which is big enough for her to make a mess on, but doesn't take up the whole table), I don't want to keep it in my diaper bag all the time.

Other reviewers mentioned that the suction cups don't work. I definitely don't have that problem; I almost have the opposite problem: it's stuck so good that I have to be careful not to fling anything when I remove it. Make sure to dampen the cups before you smash them down on the table-top.

The green is a gender-neutral, fun color. I expect that I will be able to use this for many more children. I always hand-wash mine, and I haven't noticed any enduring stains.

please do not waste your money on these placemats. i bought three of them - one for each of my small children - so i know the problems i had werent caused by a defect in just one mat. the material is good in theory. its a thick, heavy silicone material. the problem is that the mat comes with straight lines pressed into the fabric to make it easier to fold and store. these lines keep the mat from laying flat on the table. the other problem is the suction cups...they arent strong enough to hold the mat to the table. they were popping off long before i even put the kids at the table. they end up making a bigger mess than if you just didnt use a mat at all, because the kids are so interested in pulling on the raised edges of the mat that they end up dumping their bowl of food all over the table. (cereal and milk, in our case)
bottom line - these are great in theory, but the execution needs some work. try again, summer infant.

We have a similar item in green that we ordered about 8 months ago that works great. It lies flat, is easy to wash and keep clean, etc.

This blue one however arrived wadded up in the packaging, and has never "unwadded" itself. It has been washed in the same dishwasher at the same settings as the green one, but the blue one simply melts or warps and is impossible to use because it won't flatten onto the table. Not sure if the material changed or if the different color was made differently, but this product is simply unusable and we returned it.

I had high hopes for the Tiny Diner bringing more ease and convenience to our eating out experiences. So far, it's all right. It's definitely not what I had hoped for. The design, in theory, seems like a great idea, and it is, but the material used just does not work all that well.

For one, this absolutely does not lay flat as pictured. Since the design allows for it to roll up when not being used, the material tends to stay in that position. When I received mine, two of the suction cups had been folded and creased from being in the rolled position and those two suction cups really did not stick to a glass table while out at a restaurant because of the creases. Being unhappy with the creases and uneven surface, I had hoped a run through the dishwasher would help soften to surface and help smooth out some of those creases. The box says it's top-rack dishwasher safe, so I ran it through a light load with the dishes...big mistake. Now it's even worse. The cupped section to catch all the food/liquid is now horribly misshapen and it does not hang properly off the edge of a table. The suction cups did straighten out for the most part, so at least they'll stick to a table! But the cupped section sort of just sticks up and gets in the way now.

I love the idea behind this product, and I feel like it's possible to make this work better, but this material is just too easily manipulated and it's not a nice, flat mat as pictured. And considering I followed the washing directions and made it that much WORSE is just aggravating.

I've posted a photo of what my Tiny Diner looks like now, after one use and a run through the dishwasher. You can see just how poorly it lays flat and how the catch-all section is completely warped.

Update: I got fed up with the misshapen suction cups not working as they should and the overall shape of my Tiny Diner just getting worse. I finally contacted Summer's customer service via their website and expressed to them my disappointment with what felt like a defective product. They shipped me a new one--no questions asked. The new one I received is completely different. It's a darker blue (almost turquoise) color and the plastic as far more rigid and substantial than my original Tiny Diner. This one is already working out far better. I was a bit surprised at how responsive their customer service was, but that alone speaks a lot about the company, at least.

I really don't like this item. I normally don't write reviews but I had to for this one! It does not stick at all, no matter what you do, and it stains very easily. I used it one time with my 2-year old and it's heading for the trash can. The suction cups simply don't seem to do anything and she was tossing it around. Also, the tomato sauce stained it. Despite I washed it right away, it won't go away, so it now looks dirty (after a 5-min use!)
