The first one lasted about three months.

And why sell a "SAFETY" product you can't replace the battery on (yes it would make the company more money, but would buy this again after finding that out?)
Jeanette
My kids have learned not to enter the bath tub water if the there's blinking light color is yellow (too cool) or red (too hot).

The original battery on mine did not last long either, but it is possible to replace it. To start, you need to push the blue cylinder in the center of the turtle that contains the electronics down and out of the turtle. From there, use a very thin bladed screwdriver to separate the top part of the cylinder from the bottom at the obvious seam in the middle. The top part lifts out from the bottom, and you can see two wires running from the top half with the electronics to the bottom half that has the temp probe. On the under side of the top half you will see a large round battery in a 4-prong housing. It is a CR2450 battery which can be purchased right here on Amazon or can be found locally at Radio Shack. Also, if you have water/moisture where the numbers display on the screen you can pry the top cover off from the rest of the top electronics part and dry it out. If you want to be really thorough you can take off the 4 screws that you can see on the circuit board and clean/dry-off the contacts between the battery/circuit board and display. You can have your turtle up and running again in 5 minutes! Hope this helps...

I bought this item as a gift and when it arrived the battery was dead. Apparently the customer service at the company was unwilling to work with the friend I purchased this for, so now she has a $10 bath toy. Who makes a baby product with irreplaceable batteries?? I gave it one star because I had to in order to post the review, not because the product earned it.

This adorable little turtle (so cute my kids fought over it) does not keep an accurate temperature. In a tub full of ~100 degree water, he consistently read 72-74 degrees. Tried resetting, no luck. If I didn't already have a pretty good idea about the water temp, I could have really scalded my kids. Cute, but unsafe, unsafe, unsafe. Returning it immediately.

Worked for a couple of weeks then, as per numerous other reviews, the battery ran out. Unless you read the small print on the package, you would not know it is "non user servicable". It's a disgrace that a company can make such a product. Don't buy.

We've been using this thermometer daily for over a year now, and with absolutely no trouble. My son uses it as a toy as well as it being very useful for keeping the water at the right temp. My only complaint is that I wish the temps weren't spaced 2 degrees apart (93, 95, 97...) Overall it is definitely worth every penny!

After putting my little one in a too hot bath, I purchased this little guy and he was wonderful. It floats around and takes the temperature every few minutes, and after 10-15 minutes, it turns off automatically. Super practical, not big, so we take it with us when we travel. The only reason I am getting another one is because my dogs chewed off his tail and leg and now he sinks to the bottom and doesn't really work well. I really like this!

We used this digital temp tester early on with my daughter. The temperature gage worked great up until the year mark. Right around then you were no longer able to see the screen.

I bought two of these things before I realized how much it truly stunk. Both were purchased at Babies R Us. The first one lasted about three months. It worked great-- until it simply quit one day. I didn't even think about the batteries at that time. I assumed I had a faulty turtle, so I bought another one. That one only lasted 2 weeks before it quit. When I bought the second one, my "baby" had become a toddler and, like toddlers tend to do, used him as a bath toy. Not ONLY did his batteries die, causing him to shut down, but the normal wear-and-tear of bathtime play caused him to get a bunch of water under his display. What kind of bath thermometer can't withstand water? The bottom line is, this thing is a waste of money. Furthermore, if you buy it at a big box store like I did, then you don't know how many people have pushed his button to "test" him, meaning you don't know how much time you have until he goes ka-put. I've been using the Aquatopia turtle for a couple weeks now and love it. That turtle is worth the extra money.
