Book Description

The Summer of Love just went South!
The year is 1967. The world is in chaos and Jezebel “Bella” Du Mont-Lange is in love. Or is she? Ever since Bella fell from the church rafters into her mother’s arms she has longed to find the courage to soar. Now on the eve of her mama’s annual Independence Day barbecue she may finally have that chance – by staging a surprise wedding to the man she loves.
If she doesn’t run off with the man who broke her heart first. Of course, her sister may just beat her to that.
It’s Southern sisters sixties style. Romance, rivalry and smoking out Mr. Right in this fun story of family dynamics and finding the strength to let your heart take wings!

4.0 out of 5 stars Independance Day October 28, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A domineering Southern mother who hates marriage, a dysfunctional family, and a heroine who wants to get married but is afraid to tell her mother. So she plans a surprise...she'll get marrried at her mother's fourth of July celebration. Lots of fun as she tries to manuever everyone, including her sisters, her friends, and the Northerner she's trying to marry. Lots of dialogue.

I just can't get enough of Annie Jones' books and Summer of Love is one that I couldn't put down. The characters are funny and devious, Southern to the core, and this makes for a not just a great read, but a must read!

4.0 out of 5 stars Summer of Love review December 11, 2012

The story line is good. There are many grammatical errors. The editing should have been more closely monitored. I'd recommend it if you can handle misspelled words and run on sentences.

the story has promise but needs another go with an editor, I believe it was supposed to be set back in the 60's but at one point a cell phone rings! numerous other spelling and grammar errors distract from a complicated plot that never really explains why mom is so against marriage considering how happy she is in her own marriage and skims too quickly over the daddy issues that are supposed to have such an impact on the protagonist's current state of mind.

I'm giving 2 stars because the idea for the story has promise and I hope the author revisits it with some serious editing. I liked the characters especially Gomry and the sisters and the home makes a lovely setting that adds to the story.
