Book Description

May 1, 1999 Arabesque
Caryn Edwards needs to heal the wounds left by her ugly divorce and recover from a bad case of career burnout as a home economics teacher, so she rents a summer house on North Carolina's Marble Island. What she doesn't bargain for is handsome developer Logan Prescott, who will unexpectedly be sharing the house with her. But Logan has his own demons to deal with, and no intention of letting Caryn distract him--even if she is the most tempting woman he's ever met.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Recently divorced and considering a career change, 28-year-old high school teacher Caryn Edwards eagerly anticipates the solitude of a summer vacation at her friends' North Carolina beachfront home. The peace and quiet Edwards desires is quickly disturbed, however, when 35-year-old architect and urban planner Logan Prescott informs her he will be sharing the house. He's in desperate need of refuge from press attention, having just nixed marriage plans into one of the South's most prominent African-American families. Marble Island proves to be a perfect romantic backdrop as both Edwards and Prescott come to terms with emotional baggage, while struggling to control their undeniable mutual attraction. Using Edwards's journal entries to give insight into her character, Alers (Careless Whispers) makes an against-all-odds relationship believable. The author successfully weaves in commentary on racial issues: for instance, Logan was raised by white parents, and the effects of fine gradations of skin color on social status within the black community plays a role in the narrative. The ending is hardly a surprise, but that detracts little from this satisfying love story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hot Summer Magic, August 25, 2002

This review is from: Summer Magic (Arabesque) (Mass Market Paperback)
Summer Magic was just that MAGIC. Caryn needing a place to find solitude after a bad marriage was just the prescription she needed. But, she wasn't counting on sharing a house with a dream man called Logan. Now Logan is looking for a place to hide to come to terms after finding his bride to be fanning the sheets with his friend and best man. Now he never told his bride to be why he was breaking off the marriage. Both Caryn and Logan know the couple who rents their house to them for the summer, but the couple fails to tell them that they will have company. Caryn, puts a wall up to not let any man in, but her wall is slowly crumpling until that magic night they made love. She never thought a man could love her so tenderly as Logan did and Logan never thought that a woman can give so much passion. I highly recommed this book. It took me just 2 hours to read. Since reading I have re-read the last 2 chapters over again. This is a must for your collection.

Caryn Edwards came to Marble Island to get some peace and quiet. She has been through quite an ordeal with her failed marrige. She was also looking forward to a break from school. She taught Home Ec. She decided to take her friends up on the offer to rent their summer home while they were away. What she didn't count on is having a housemate.

Logan Prescott was getting away for some peace from a shock that changed his life. He was renting his friends summer home on Marble Island, but was surpised to find a beautiful woman would be sharing the home with him.

Summer Magic is actually one of my favorite stories by Ms. Alers. This is a true romance. You actually watch the characters fall in love right before your eyes. Yes, they both have issues, but they find solace in each other. They then realize they can work through things together.

Ms. Alers stories are always wonderful. No matter what the topic is, she does a marvelous job. Even her novellas are wonderful. I have all Ms. Alers published works. She is very well known for her Hideaway Legacy Series. Summer Magic, Home Sweet Home are two of my favorite stories outside the Hideaway Legacy Series. Get them !!

I loved this book. It was a beautiful story. Caryn Edwards had suffered at the hands of an abusive man, Logan Prescott caught his fiancee in bed with his best man, now they end up at the same summer house looking for some much needed rest. The rest becomes impossible when they find themselves attracted to each other. Can they move beyoned the past to find true love.
