5.0 out of 5 stars Summer on a Plate
Everyone in our family has chosen one and sometimes two recipes out of this book (at the same time)to prepare for dinner parties this summer. Anna Pump has done it again. I have all of her books and this one is right up there.

This review is from: Summer on a Plate: More than 120 delicious, no-fuss recipes for memorable meals from Loaves and Fishes (Hardcover)
Everyone in our family has chosen one and sometimes two recipes out of this book (at the same time)to prepare for dinner parties this summer. Anna Pump has done it again. I have all of her books and this one is right up there.

The layers of flavors in the dishes are marvelous. Recently our guests raved about her Creamed Carrot soup with Ginger and Lime. Her Citrus-Marinated Salmon is fantastic as well as her Blueberry Crumble and her Blueberry-Rhubarb Pie.

Enjoy! It would make a great house gift!

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Flavors, Fresh Ingredients, July 8, 2009

This review is from: Summer on a Plate: More than 120 delicious, no-fuss recipes for memorable meals from Loaves and Fishes (Hardcover)
I found out about Anna Pump and The Loaves and Fishes through Ina Garten (the Barefoot Contessa). Ina dedicated her latest cookbook to Anna and also showcased Anna's marmalade on her cooking show.

On this recommendation alone, I purchased "Summer on a Plate." This is a fantastic book full of mouth-watering recipes that utilize fresh ingredients and simple, clean flavors. Recipes such as a chilled Strawberry Soup use citrus and sour cream to really bring home the wondrous flavors of fresh berries.

I am sorry to say that the book is not as beautiful as its written content. The pages are thin and, honestly, somewhat cheap looking. There is a slim insert of color pictures (which look nice), but I can only imagine how this book would look full of vibrant pictures and crisp pages.

The layout in no way affects the recipes, but I think the recipes deserve better! In fact, I recently spotted this book in a bargain section of the bookstore...which is a crime! It is one of my simplest (and yet most appetizing) cookbook purchases in recent memory.

Don't be fooled by any discount you see...or judge this book by its look. Take a peek at the recipes and you'll see why Anna Pump and "Summer on a Plate" deserve five stars!

Highly recommended to fans of Ina Garten and those who champion fresh ingredients and clean flavors.

5.0 out of 5 stars Over 100 gourmet dishes for non-fuss, hot-weather meals, September 11, 2008
This review is from: Summer on a Plate: More than 120 delicious, no-fuss recipes for memorable meals from Loaves and Fishes (Hardcover)
Summer is a time for lazy weekends and longer days - and cooking should be the same. A catering proprietor provides easy yet unique dishes in SUMMER ON A PLATE: over 100 gourmet dishes for non-fuss, hot-weather meals. From Grilled Beef with Herb Sauce to Warm Tuna Sandwich with Ginger-Lemon Sauce, it's packed with unusual dishes not to be found elsewhere. No color photos - but the easy dishes don't need embellishment to appeal to any cookbook fan or lending library focusing on unique recipe collections.

This is THE lady who inspired the Barefoot Contessa originally. I just love these fresh again, old fashion dishes from way back when. Summer like it should be.

Anna Pump from Loaves and Fishes out in the Hamptons, NY was ahead of the curve with food and preparation. Ina Garten is more well known but Anna Pump was the originater.

The recipes in this book are easy to prepare, are today, use fresh ingredients and can be served for friends and family.

Ease of use, practical ingredients and presentations that are lovely to look at as well as eat.

a winner for sure.

I like the background information Anna provides and side notes in "Summer on a Plate" but didn't find a plethora of recipes that I might fall back upon. Brining is one suggestion in this book that makes sense and think it might fall into my grilling repertoire.

5.0 out of 5 stars new is not so new, September 17, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I love Anna Pumps books and when I saw her latest book for less than $10.00 for a new copy I could not pass up that great deal. However when the book arrived it had stickers and black marker on it and it definitly did not look new I retuned it for another and had the same problem.
After numerus tries I gave up and went to the book store to buy a real new one. I guess you get what you pay for

The large type was nice. Tried the corn fritters and they were fine. A good book for beginners who have disposable income.
