Absolutely Terrific!,
This review is from: Summer Reading Is Killing Me (Time Warp Trio) (Hardcover)
The Time Warp Trio set out on their best adventure yet, when Fred leaves their school's summer reading list stuck inside the pages of their time travel vehicle, "The Book". Now, the three are stuck in literature, where the bad and evil characters are out to get all the good ones and take over the stories. This is a wonderfully written, witty, funny story that will have your kids laughing out loud. Perfect for third through sixth graders, kids will recognize characters from stories they've read and some that parents and teachers have read to them. A page turner to the end, this is the perfect book to read once the school year has ended. The only negative thing I can say about Summer Reading is Killing Me, is that it's over way too soon.

As a Michigan teacher who has met the author personally I look forward to each new book Scieszka writes. I especially enjoyed reading the latest adventures of Scieszka's Time Warp Trio. The adventure is fast paced and I caught myself laughing out loud as I read. In my classroom I will read it at the beginning of the school year and at the end of the year to arouse interest in the many book characters mentioned in the story.

I recommend this book to any boy in third or fourth grade. It was a very funny book to read and was adventuous also. After reading many other Time Warp Trio books, this was a welcome addition to my summer reading list. P. S. After reading this book pay good attention to the summer reading at the end. It will make you chuckle!

Summer Reading is Killing Me is a good book because it's about three boys who have a book. This book is no ordinary book because it time warps. This time the green slime took them into a book with villans and good guys. The major villan is a mad teddy bear he wants to take over the world. So they have to save all the books and the world.I gave this book five stars because it's adventurous and funny.

This book was many books combined into one hillarious comedy. It had action, violence, and humor. I would recommend this book to friends or foes. Fred, Joe and Sam were terrific. Read this book!!!!!

...because he will be laughing so hard he will give himself away. My 7-year-old's passion for reading has been largely fueled by the Time Warp trio. If you are looking for something with boy heros that is engaging and VERY funny (from you kid's perspective), this is for you.Girls too, especially those who appreciate a good booger joke now and then. Makes those Magic Tree House kids look like the Brady bunch.

Fabulous reading for boys (and girls),
This review is from: Summer Reading Is Killing Me! #7 (Time Warp Trio) (Paperback)
My son is dyslexic. Reading has always been a terrible struggle for him, and things have been getting worse each year. Now that he is in the fourth grade, he is expected to read a few pages from a novel every single day. We've had been through an ENTIRE shelf of books from the classroom trying to find one that captured his interest. He hated reading, and enforcing the 2-3 pages a night requirement was painful for him and for me. I knew instinctively that this was partly because reading was hard, and partly because the books he was bringing home simply did not appeal to him. If you can characterize a book as "female" these books fit the bill. Big on character development and relationships, small on action and humor.I stumbled across this book on the website guysread.com. Not only did my reluctant reader read his 2-3 pages, but he sat down and read the ENTIRE BOOK in 2 days. I had tears in my eyes when I took him to the library to get the next few books in the series. You have no idea how greatful I was to see him enthusiastic about reading! The book itself is actually pretty clever. I read the entire story in about 30 minutes after my son was done, and thought the idea unique and the writing entertaining and clever. The interplay between all the familiar characters was magic, and the bit at the end about the "generic female character" had me laughing out load. Seriously. Unlike the potty humor books (Captain Underpants) that are an aquired taste for adults, this book has absolutely nothing that will make a grownup cringe. And, although I appreciate the purpose of Dav Pilkey's books, I am relieved to have a series for my son to devour that does not involve boogers, poop, and other kinds of potty humor. Trust me when I say adolescent boys do not need any more encouragment in this area. My son CAN'T WAIT to read the next few books, and I can't tell you how amazing this feels. He can't wait to read. Who woulda figured??

Summer Reading List,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Summer Reading is Killing Me! (Time Warp Trio) (Mass Market Paperback)
Hi, I am doing my book review on Summer Reading is Killing Me. The author for this book is Jon Scieska. You can practically find this book in every library. Three boys travel through their summer reading book and go on an adventure. This book is about three boys named Sam, Fred and Joe. They don't want to do their summer reading. Instead of doing their summer reading they would rather practice skating. Then Fred accidentally places the summer reading list inside THE BOOK. Then all of a sudden this green mist comes and sucks them in the book. When they are in the book in order to get back they have to get the book and take the summer reading list out. So they travel all through the book to get the list. Will Sam, Fred and Joe get the summer reading list out of the book? Read the book to find out more. I recommend this book to 5~10 years old. This book is really funny so people who like humor will love this book. When I was reading this book I could not put it down. I hope you like my book review.

Easy introduction to other great books,
This review is from: Summer Reading is Killing Me! (Time Warp Trio) (Mass Market Paperback)
My son recently wrote the following:The Time Warp Trio books contain amazing pictures by Lane Smith and humorous stories by Jon Scieszka (of The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales fame). Time Warp Trio books are entertaining and easy to read and were probably written to encourage kids who don't usually read much to read more. For example, in Summer Reading Is Killing Me, Joe, Fred, and Sam are sucked through The Book into "storyland," where "the Boss" (a big teddy bear) is disposing of all of the protagonists (the "heroes") in books and making the antagonists ("bad guys") the main characters; thus, Curious Mr. Twit, The Devil in the Willows, etc. So, just by reading this one simple book, kids who aren't as interested in reading may become more enthusiastic about even better books, like The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, The Hobbit, The Twits, Aesop's Fables, Dracula, Bridge to Terabithia, and Lord of the Flies, to name a few. |
