Contemporary Romance, April 15, 2011
This review is from: A Summer Sentence (Avalon Romance) (Hardcover)
After a blowup with her father, Megan Marsh heads to Chicago to follow her dream. On the way, she passes through McCray County, Tennessee where a misunderstanding leads to performing community service in this quaint town.
Sheriff Daniel McCray can't see living anywhere else. He has hopes of finding a hometown girl and starting a family. He's not ready for the attraction towards Megan. For that matter, neither can she. They come from two different worlds and their goals don't match. A relationship between the two wouldn't work out. Or would it?
The story begins as funny and stays fairly engaging throughout, but parts of the story are hokey, not to mention awkward dialogue in places and a predictable plot. The characters are stereotypical such as the high-strung deputy that resembles Mayberry's Barney Fife, but I enjoyed Megan and Daniel as well as Megan's uncles, Dallas, Dayton, and Denver. Oh, and let's not forget Daniel's Uncle Bob. He was the mastermind behind Megan's community service.
All-in-all, this was a cute story with engaging characters, but it's more likely to fit the 1970 era. People, especially poverty-stricken children simply do not act like that anymore--no matter how rural the town.

A Sweet Romance, March 31, 2006
This review is from: A Summer Sentence (Avalon Romance) (Hardcover)
Small town life described with authentic flavor, likeable characters, and a good deal of fine humor make this chaste love story suitable for readers of all ages. Easy to read and relatively short, this hardcover book would make a great gift for anyone, but perhaps especially for a young reader who is ready to discover the romance genre.

Easy reading.....good story of relaxed living in rural Tennessee, February 13, 2006
This review is from: A Summer Sentence (Avalon Romance) (Hardcover)
Great descriptive novel of summer time in rural Tennesee. Ms. Carey pictures the true life of a part of America where "everyone know everyone" and where most of the local characters are related. Her humor is perfect. This is a warm love story of two entirely different personalities who compliment each other.
