I've always been fond of the Magic Tree House series as these were the books that made my son a reader! However, after dozens of books, my son started to get tired of the same series and showed no interest in reading the last several books.

3.0 out of 5 stars Sea Serpent Review
I like the book "Summer of the Sea Serpent" because it is an adventure. It is the 31st book in the series "The Magic Tree House." The characters are jack and Annie. they are young wizards who have to get a sword but to get it, they must answer questions from the sea serpent. Read the book to find out if they got the sword.

This review is from: Summer of the Sea Serpent (Magic Tree House, No. 31) (Hardcover)
I've always been fond of the Magic Tree House series as these were the books that made my son a reader! However, after dozens of books, my son started to get tired of the same series and showed no interest in reading the last several books.

Inspite of this, I had to buy this book when I saw the cover - a Sea Serpent - that had to be intriguing! Dreaded mom that I am - I made my son read this book! He protested for about one minute - and then he was hooked!

While the first 20 books or so of the series are for younger readers, the last ones have "grown" and appeal to the 9 - 12 year old range. Full of adventure - this series just keeps getting better!

If your child thinks they've outgrown this series - pick up a copy of this book - you never know - they may just find themselves hooked once again on the magical adventures of Jack and Annie!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Read, April 6, 2004
This review is from: Summer of the Sea Serpent (Magic Tree House, No. 31) (Hardcover)
This book contains all three elements deemed essential for a good fantasy story: magic, mythology, and medeival setting. Additionally, the story concerns two likable characters that kids easily relate to. This book is not rated in the top 200 Amazon sellers for nothing, so apparently a lot of other readers have enjoyed it. For magical fun and adventure, I highly recommend "Summer of the Sea Serpent" for readers aged 9-12.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Fantasy Story!, April 18, 2004
This review is from: Summer of the Sea Serpent (Magic Tree House, No. 31) (Hardcover)
This book is filled with magic, fun, and fantsay, three things most preteens can't resist. As an elementary school teacher and mother, I think all kids from 9-13 will enjoy this book. (...)

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Summer of the Sea Serpent (Magic Tree House, No. 31) (Hardcover)
Hello Reader!
Summer of the Sea Serpent is magnificent and all over stupendous. This story is sort of scary and adventurous at the same time. This is when Jack and Annie need to get the sword of light for Merlin. They see many different things. They also meet a new friend and her name is Kathleen. That is all I will tell you! Good Luck Reading!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Action and Adventure at your Fingertips, September 29, 2004
This review is from: Summer of the Sea Serpent (Magic Tree House, No. 31) (Hardcover)
First of all I like the Merlin Missions because they are longer than the regular Magic Tree House books. Summer of the Sea Serpent was exciting because there was a giant sea serpent. Is he good or bad? Read for yourself to find out!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Magic For All Ages, June 19, 2010
This review is from: Summer of the Sea Serpent (Magic Tree House, No. 31) (Hardcover)
The Summer of the Sea Serpent is a very unique story written by Mary Pope Osborne. She has of course written other books in the Magic Tree House series, but this book really stands out to me. It incorporates magic, mystical creatures, trust, and a lot of imagination. I wanted to be one of the children as they turned into seals and swam through the water on their journey to find the Sword of Light. I love the imagery she provides the reader as you take the journey along with the children in the story.

This book came highly recommended by my seven year old son. He couldn't wait to get it home from the library so we could read it together. Unfortunately keeping secrets is not his strong suit, so not all the story was a surprise for me, but it will be for you. I trully enjoyed reading every page.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Winner, November 6, 2005
This review is from: Summer of the Sea Serpent (Magic Tree House, No. 31) (Hardcover)
Mary Pope Osborne has penned another winner with "Summer of the Sea Serpent". I purchased this book for my Grandson and as usual read it before giving. The narrative is action oriented, rich in plot and blessed with great pictures. It is a pleasure to find books of this quality to present to my Grandchildren. I am fortunate to have a seven-year-old Grandson that loves to read, it is a habit I love to feed and Thanks to this author and the Magic TreeHouse series it is an easy task.
